Today marks the much-anticipated unveiling of Apple's newest iPhones. And so far, the results are nothing short of surprising. According to CEO Tim Cook, today's announcement marks the "biggest advance in iPhone." Here's what we know right now:
Two iPhones have been revealed: the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6+. Apple is known for using numbers to differentiate its new phones from the previous versions. The symbol is a new addition to the iPhone.
Both of the iPhones are made out of anodized aluminum. The coverglass curves around the sides, so the phone looks rounder with no distinct edges. The result is a smooth and continuous design.
The new phones are also dramatically thinner than previous iPhones. The iPhone 6 is only 6.9mm, while the 6 Plus is a little more at 7.1mm.
The new iPhones are much bigger than older versions. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch display, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5 inch display. Both iPhone 6 models feature a new Retina HD display with the full sRGB wide color gamut, so users have the best display with the highest resolutions. The display even boasts more than a billion pixels.
Unlike previous iPhones which were loyal to small displays, these larger phones put Apple on par with other Androids, like the Moto X. The iPhone 6 also touts a new landscape mode, so users can see even more content and browse the internet easily.
The new iPhones promise a bigger and better camera. With an 8MP iSight camera complete with True Tone flash, a new sensor, and a 2.2 aperture, this camera is a significant improvement from the iPhone 5s. Plus, the new camera features faster auto focusing, advanced local tone mapping, noise reduction, and even a burst mode for selfies.
The iPhones also have a new Apple-designed video encoder to improve HD video capability. Both phones can now shoot 1080p video at 30 or 60 frames per second for videos, while slo-mo mode can shoot at 120 or 240 frames per second.
In addition, Apple has introduced a health app, meant to give users a detailed look at their health and fitness. The app even includes a barometer to measure elevation from air pressure!
The iPhone 6 will cost: $199 (16GB), $299 (64GB), $399 (128GB).
The iPhone 6 Plus will cost: $299 (16GB), $399 (64GB), $499 (128GB).
The new iPhone models come in black, white, and gold, and will be available for pre-order on September 12th. You can do so at Wirefly here: Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus
