Google’s Nexus 5X smartphone, which was built in collaboration with South Korean phone maker LG, has now been officially made available in the United States as well as in markets such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, India, South Korea, and Japan. The Nexus 5X was one of two new Nexus devices that Google introduced last month during a press event held in the city of San Francisco in California, and is now available for sale at Google’s online store and through major wireless carriers and authorized retailers in America and in the markets mentioned earlier.
While Nexus smartphone normally do not come with all the additional features and extra add-ons found on handsets made by Samsung, LG, and other mobile manufacturers, but they do cater to a specific niche of the Android market, especially those users who want their mobile devices powered by a version of the Android mobile operating system that is as pure as possible.
Also, Nexus handsets usually are offered unlocked out of the box, which means that mobile users are free to tinker with them. Moreover, Google’s Nexus devices are almost always priced at reasonable rates, which could be a major relief, especially for those who are often left with either the choice of paying the full retail price for a new phone, or getting a discount but end up getting stuck on a standard two year agreement. As for the Google Nexus 5X device, its 16 gigabyte edition is being offered at $379, while its 32 gigabyte edition is being offered at $429.
The Nexus 5X was unveiled back in September of this year, alongside another Nexus device, the Nexus 6P, which was manufactured by Chinese phone maker Huawei. The Nexus 5X marks the third collaboration of Google and LG, which also partnered with the search giant in building the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5.
For those not in the know, the Nexus 5X device boasts a 5.2 inch display screen (with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, and a 12.3 megapixel camera on the rear side and a 5 megapixel camera on the front side. Inside, it features a six core Snapdragon chip. Its many features include a USB Type C connector that facilitates quick charging, and a fingerprint scanner on the back of the handset, which allows mobile users to have their fingerprint read while holding the device using just one hand.
The Nexus 5X is also the first smartphone to arrive in the market pre-installed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the latest version of Google’s Android mobile OS. The device is made available in three color options -- carbon black, quartz white, and ice blue.
