LG has officially begun its global rollout of its four newest midrange smartphones: Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy. These quartet of budget-friendly mobile devices will be launched first in the South American market, and then will be rolled out to markets in North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. LG first introduced the Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy smartphones during the recent Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain almost two months ago.
Competing in a field dominated by Apple and Samsung, LG definitely has its work cut out for it. And it will not be easy, considering that in the last few months, Apple (with its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices) and Samsung (with its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices) have been launching high-profile smartphone offerings.
LG has its own high-end smartphone offering, of course. With the launch of its upcoming G4 smartphone, the successor to the well received G3, the South Korean phone maker is getting ready to contend head-to-head with Apple and Samsung. But competing in the high-end market may not be enough. LG might also do well to compete in the midrange market, specifically targeting customers who can do away with devices that feature premium specifications.
This is where LG's Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy devices come in. They may come with budget-friendly prices, but their specifications are not bad. The Magna and Spirit devices, for instance, both come with a nifty, slightly curved touch screen reminiscent of the LG G Flex 2. The Magna has a 5 inch HD display screen (294 ppi) and a 3 megapixel camera on the front side, while the Spirit sports a 4.7 inch HD display screen with 312 pixels per inch.
These two devices feature either a quad core 1.2 GigaHertz or 1.3 GigaHertz processor, and either a 5 or 8 megapixel camera on the rear side. Moreover, they both run on Android 5.0 Lollipop, the newest version of Google's Android mobile operating system, and are supported with 8 gigabytes of internal storage. Buyers can opt for either a 3G or 4G compatible edition of the two devices.
Both the Leon and Joy devices will also come in either 3G or 4G compatible versions. The Leon is equipped with either a 1.2 or 1.3 GigaHertz quad core processor, and comes with either a 5 or 8 megapixel camera on the rear. The device also features a 4.5 inch FWVGA 220 ppi touch screen, 8 gigabytes of internal storage, and the Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system. As for the Joy device, it features a 4 inch WVGA display screen (with 233 pixels per inch), complemented with a 5 megapixel camera. Its mobile operating system will be either Android 4.4 KitKat or Android 5.0 Lollipop, and will pack either a dual or quad core 1.2 GigaHertz chip.
