Back in September, Samsung officially announced the new Galaxy Note 4. The device was slated to replace the South Korean phone maker's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3, and is being positioned by the company as a direct competitor to other flagship phones like the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus, and the LG G3.
In the days following the device's unveiling, all major wireless carriers in the United States immediately announced that they will be pushing the Galaxy Note 4. Most of these carriers have already announced the release dates for the device, except perhaps for Verizon Wireless, which remains a bit mum on the subject. Although Verizon is already accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 4, it has only provided the phone's ship by dates for October 23rd (other carriers had already released their Galaxy Note 4 offerings last October 17th). Prospective buyers who inquired about the exact date were just referred by Verizon to the ship by dates the carrier has listed on its official website. Regardless, Verizon has already begun shipping pre-ordered Galaxy Note 4 units (black- and white-colored models) yesterday, and the devices are expected to land either today or tomorrow.
Galaxy Note 4 release dates aside, there is a bit of good news related to Verizon Wireless. Samsung has officially revealed the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition, and it will be coming to Verizon soon. News of the device was first reported by Droid-Life, but now it seems that the special Galaxy Note 4 edition has been already spotted in Samsung's website.
The Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition is listed with a price of $662.53, which makes it cheaper than the regular off-contract edition. It is quite possible that the price displayed may be just a place holder -- Samsung and Verizon may still be finalizing the pricing details of the device.
What makes the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition different from the regular edition is that it comes with an unlocked bootloader, which would let users tinker with the built-in software, or install another custom-made one. Developer edition phones usually come with higher prices, so it is a bit of a surprise that this device is cheaper than the regular edition.
However, it should be noted that the Nexus 6 is also coming to Verizon soon. Like the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition, the Nexus 6 is a device made for tinkering users, which means that the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition could be facing unwanted competition within Verizon's ranks.
True to recent form, Verizon has not announced a release date yet for the Galaxy Note 4 Developer Edition, but it should not be too far off. To know more about Verizon's deals, you can compare the carrier's plans and phones here. Or you can browse Samsung phones and plans.
