Samsung has officially unveiled its newest tablet device, the 18.4 inch Galaxy View, which is being positioned by the South Korean tech giant as a cool video content watching device especially for those who are always on the go. Samsung had actually first teased the Galaxy View at the annual IFA Trade Show held in Berlin, Germany back in September earlier this year. Now, tablet loving fans of Galaxy devices of the world will get a chance to take a closer look at the device courtesy of multiple angle images of the tablet posted by Samsung in its official blog site.
What makes Samsung’s Galaxy View tablet unique is that the South Korean mobile manufacturer has clearly designed the device to focus on video watching. Indeed, the tablet’s interface even features a dedicated home screen for media-centric mobile apps. With consumers nowadays becoming more mobile in their daily lives, it does make sense for Samsung to offer a tablet that caters to those who can not wait to go home to watch their favorite movies, TV shows, and other video content.
The Galaxy View’s 18.4 display screen comes with a full HD 1,920 by 1,080 resolution. The screen is complemented with a 2.1 megapixel on the front side. Inside the tablet is a 1.6 GigaHertz eight core chip, supported with 2 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 32 gigabytes of onboard storage, plus memory can be expanded via a micro SD slot. The tablet is powered by a 5,700 mAh battery.
Those expecting Samsung’s Galaxy View tablet device to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow (the newest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system) may be a bit disappointed. Samsung’s latest tablet offering will instead come with Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is still not bad by any measure.
Samsung is already saying that the Galaxy View is the biggest Android powered mobile device in the market right now. With the Galaxy View’s 18.4 inches size, few may argue with that claim. But there are those may be thinking that at 2.6 kilograms, the Samsung Galaxy View may be a bit too big to actually provide a “mobile” advantage for today’s users.
Fortunately, Samsung may have a bit of an inkling that people would say exactly that, and is doing something about it. The Galaxy View actually sports a handle on the rear part of the tablet. Not only does the handle allow the device to exhibit more portability, it also serves as a kickstand, propping up the device on itself without requiring any other support.
