AT&T and T-Mobile have already done it. Now, the biggest wireless carrier in America is joining in on the fun, too. Yesterday, it was reported that AT&T and T-Mobile had unleashed separate buy one, get one special offers that featured Samsung’s latest flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. This time around, industry leader Verizon Wireless is announcing its own version of the deal, just in time for the official launching of the South Korean phone maker’s newest smartphone offerings.
Beginning Friday and for a limited time only, Verizon Wireless subscribers who purchase a Galaxy S7 or a Galaxy S7 Edge handset for the full retail price, or via a 24 month installment plan can receive a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime device by paying a dollar every month for a period of two years. For those not familiar with the Core Prime handset, it is basically an entry level device made available by the Big Red to both new and existing subscribers, and to customers deciding to upgrade their current smartphones.
On top of this, Verizon Wireless has also decided to award a $100 credit to the phone bills of subscribers who purchase any one of the new Galaxy devices for the full retail price or by way of an installment plan. This offer is for a limited time only, and is also applied to customers who buy Motorola’s Droid Turbo, Droid Turbo 2, or Droid Maxx 2 smartphone.
Yet another offer from Verizon Wireless gives as much as $300 credit to subscribers who opt to trade in their existing handset (must be in good working condition) and upgrade to a Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Droid Turbo, Turbo 2, or Maxx 2. The $300 credit can be applied to the customer’s next smartphone bill, accessories for his new handset, or for another product bought from the Big Red.
Plus, those who purchase the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge will get to receive a Samsung Gear virtual reality (VR) headset or a Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch. Those buying the new Galaxy devices at a Verizon Wireless retail outlet will enjoy a $100 discount off the Gear S2 wearable device provided that they purchase on a two year activation plan at $5 a month.
This week has been a pretty good one for Samsung, and the South Korean tech giant is hoping to establish some momentum heading into the rest of March. It is no secret that Samsung wants to have a hit product as soon as possible, especially after its previous flagship devices -- last year’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge -- did not do well enough in terms of sales. And with Chinese phone makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi continuing to threaten Samsung’s global market share, the company needs to boost its sales right now.
