Last July 29th of this year, Microsoft officially made Windows 10, its latest operating system, available to the public. As for Windows 10 Mobile, the version of Windows 10 that is designed and optimized for mobile phones -- it will be coming soon.
To help mobile users prepare, especially those who own mobile devices that run on Windows, Microsoft has released an initial list of Lumia handsets that will get Windows 10 Mobile first. It should be noted that the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile will be made by way of a free software upgrade, and it will happen sometime later this year.
Here is the initial list of the Lumia devices getting Windows 10 Mobile first:
For now, this initial list contains only a total of 10 Lumia devices. Those who own any one of these devices, or are thinking of buying one, will be able to get the Windows 10 Mobile free upgrade when it becomes available. For those who own Lumia devices that are not included in the list, know that this is an initial list only, and Microsoft will surely release a new list sometime soon that will include more Lumia devices.
Devices who get Windows 10 Mobile will also get Office Mobile apps, an enhanced Action Center, and do not forget Edge, the new browser from Microsoft. The Office Mobile apps consist of your standard Office apps like Word (composing documents), Excel (generating spreadsheets), PowerPoint (creating slide presentations), and OneNote (for note taking).
As for Edge, owners of any of the Lumia devices listed earlier will get a chance to experience first what Microsoft’s new web browser is all about. The company has promised that the Edge browser is a cleaner and leaner version compared to the Internet Explorer.
Despite having already been launched in July 29th of this year, the Windows 10 operating system is actually being rolled out by Microsoft in several stages. First to get it are those users who signed up under the Windows Insider Program. Next are the various manufacturers of personal computers which are releasing new products that have Windows 10 pre-installed.
After the lackluster launch of Windows 8, Microsoft is definitely hoping for a successful Windows 10 launch. This could be its last chance to get into the mobile market, and be able to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.
