Starting Sept. 30, the Motorola Droid R2D2 phone will be available from Verizon Wireless. Based on the popular Star Wars character, the Droid R2D2 will run the Android 2.2 operating system.

Designed to look like the popular Astromech Droid from the Star Wars movie series, the Droid R2-D2 will be packaged in a custom box and come with a special media dock and wired stereo headset. The special edition smartphone comes pre-loaded with exclusive content, including:

• R2-D2 notification sounds and ringtones
• Four live wallpapers
• R2-D2 clock widget
• “The Best of R2-D2″ video with the original Cantina music
• Exclusive Binoculars app.

Based on Motorola’s existing Droid 2, the Droid R2D2 comes with a docking station that allows easy connection with a computer for charging and file interchange. The Droid R2D2 carries over the Droid 2′s 3.7-inch, WVGA (480×854 pixels) capacitive touch screen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, pinch-to-zoom support and a version of Motoblur software.
