The Motorola DROID 4 combines dual-core power with Verizon’s speedy 4G LTE network, and that’s a great combination. It’s also the first of the sliding-keyboard DROID series to have a non-removable battery, and it is also the first to have a special tool for taking the back off of the phone. What all comes in the box and how is the back installed and removed?

In this video, Wirefly’s Scott Lewis opens the box on the Motorola DROID 4 and shows what comes in the standard retail package. Motorola DROID 4 vs. Motorola DROID 3 Schmackdown!

Just how big a jump is the Motorola DROID 4 over its predecessor, the Motorola DROID 3. Both have nice five-row slide-out keyboards, both have sharp four-inch 540 x 960-pixel LCD displays and both have speedy dual-core processors. However, the DROID 3 has a 1 GHz dual-core processor, while the DROID 4′s dual-core processor takes the higher road to 1.2 GHz. The DROID 4 also adds a connection to Verizon’s speed 4G LTE network, and routinely gets download speeds of 15 Mbps… and often higher. Although it ships with Android 2.3, the DROID 4 is expected to be upgraded to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the next few months. There has been no word on whether the DROID 3 will get that upgrade.

If the new Motorola DROID 4 for Verizon Wireless seems a little familiar, that’s because its internal components are very similar those in the Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR Maxx. If you like the DROID RAZR but prefer a phone with a physical sliding keyboard, then the DROID 4 gives you most of what the DROID RAZR has, adding the keyboard and shrinking the display a bit. Both connect to Verizon’s impressive 4G LTE network, which boasts download speeds that routinely exceed 15 Mbps. Motorola DROID 4 Review

Verizon Wireless has had excellent success with the DROID series of phones, most of which were manufactured by Motorola. Each iteration of DROID was a significant jump from the previous version, and the latest is no exception. The Motorola DROID 4 is the first of the sliding-keyboard DROID phones to feature connection to Verizon’s 4G LTE network, and the goodies don’t stop there. The DROID 4 also features a dual-core processor, a four-inch 540 x 960-pixel display, an eight-megapixel rear camera and a front camera for video chat. Shipped with Android 2.3 today, the DROID 4 is expected to receive an update to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The LG Spectrum is the latest Android phone from Verizon Wireless to feature a large display with 720p resolution. In addition to this true high-definition display, the Spectrum also features a 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, 4G connectivity on Verizon’s speedy LTE network, and surprisingly trim size and light weight. The technology tweaks don’t stop there — the display uses in-plane switching (IPS) for better visibility in daylight and lower power consumption, for example. The LG Spectrum looks to be a serious competitor among Verizon’s high-end 4G phones.
