4G Internet Download Speed Test: WiMax vs. LTE

Sprint was the first major carrier to launch 4G service when it rolled out its WiMax network in June 2010. However, Verizon caught up quickly with its 4G LTE network, which debuted in Dec. 2010. How do these two networks compare in terms of download speed? Some recent tests by Wirefly suggest that WiMax and LTE compete strongly against each other, so this test is a chance to do a simple network-vs.-network check.

In this test, Wirefly’s Bob Kovacs puts a Samsung Epic 4G Touch for Sprint side-by-side with an HTC Rezound for Verizon and runs two Internet download tests using the Bandwidth Meter on CNET.com. Click on the video window to the right to see the results of the speed test.
