No smartphone has galvanized the techno-literati like the Apple iPhone. The first iterations of the iPhone were highly successful, but the iPhone 4 combined an almost magical amount of technology with design and product cachet. If you talk to people looking for a smartphone, many think of an iPhone 4 as a personal accessory, a sort of jewelry that also happens to work as a phone. There are many other excellent phones, but none has the cachet of the Apple iPhone 4.

One of those excellent smartphones is the HTC EVO 3D, a massive upgrade to last summer’s popular HTC EVO 4G. In July 2010, the EVO 4G put Sprint on the map as the company that put a 4G phone in your pocket, and what a powerhouse it was. The EVO line now gets a big upgrade with the EVO 3D, pushing just about every aspect of the smartphone just a little further. Among other things, the EVO 3D has a 3D camera and a display that allows you to see 3D without glasses. It also has a dual-core processor, a big upgrade in RAM and higher display resolution. So how will the new EVO compare with the Apple iPhone 4? The name “EVO” has come to signify a high standard in cell phone performance, so anything new that bears the EVO name will be scrutinized against the iPhone – and right now, the iPhone 4 is the top of Apple’s line.

Got the EVO 2 days ago, and my Grandma got the iPhone 4, both through Sprint. I constantly show her things on the iPhone so I use it just as much as she does. I gotta say both phones are spectacular. I used to have an iPhone 3g and an HTC Wildfire S and both phones blew the 3g and Wildfire away. I don’t have any personal complaints about either phones, The iPhone definitely is a more simplistic phone and you couldn’t get lost in it, the EVO I could get lost in for days. The pictures are great, the video quality is spectacular, and all in all the phone is boss.

Inaccurate data. HTC EVO 3D does NOT have 4 Gig’s of onboard storage and it does NOT take 1080p video.

While I own this device and love it, I wanted to point out the errors that I found.

    • Tim, thanks for the corrections. We published this chart a month before the EVO 3D was released, and HTC/Sprint were still saying at that time that the EVO 3D would have 4GB of storage and would do 1080p video. Both those proved wrong but we had moved on to other documents at that point. I fixed those items in this chart.
