Key Differences

  • 4G: The HTC Evo 4G is the first phone on a U.S. network to boast 4G connectivity, making it capable of connecting to Sprint’s WiMax network (where available) and enabling the device to reach peak download speeds of over 10 Mbps and peak upload speeds of 1 Mbps.  In areas without 4G connectivity, the EVO will still operate on Sprint’s 3G network.  Of course, the DROID Incredible by HTC connects to Verizon’s speedy 3G network.
  • Display: Like the HTC HD2 (T-Mobile), the HTC EVO 4G is equipped with a huge and gorgeous 4.3-inch touch sensitive 480×800 pixel display.  The screen real estate makes the EVO 4G an ideal entertainment device — perfect for watching movies, browsing the web and even reading eBooks.  The DROID Incredible also has an impressive and sizable 3.7-inch touch-sensitive display with the same resolution as the EVO 4G, of course meaning that the Incredible has more pixels per square inch than the EVO 4G.

  • HDMI out: The DROID Incredible inspired some excitement when it was revealed that the device supports a cable (accessory sold separately) that allows it to output composite video. The accessory allows anything on the smartphone’s display to be displayed on a TV or projector, including video. The EVO 4G offers the same capability, but in HD-quality (with an HDMI cable, also sold separately).
  • Mobile hotspot: The HTC EVO 4G can function as a 3G/4G mobile hotspot, providing the ability for up to 8 WiFi enabled devices to use the smartphone’s internet connection simultaneously. The DROID Incredible does not have native mobile hotspot capabilities.
  • Design: Naturally, because of its significantly larger display, the HTC EVO 4G is a larger and slightly heavier device than the DROID Incredible. The HTC EVO 4G features a “kickstand” that allows it to easily stand on a tabletop, proving a handy method of hands-free viewing.
  • HD-quality video: Both phones are capable of recording HD-quality (720P) video.
  • Front-facing camera: Both devices are equipped with a powerful 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with bright dual LED flash. The EVO 4G, however, also boasts a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera that is expected to make the device capable of mobile video chat.

  • I am from INDIA. can i get HTC EVO 4G …… how much it totolly cost

    • Saiteja, Wirefly sells phones only in the US, and they are locked to US-based carriers. We do not ship outside the US, even for an extra cost.

  • I got an Incredible about two months ago. Some things wirefly might want to correct is that the phone DOES come with both mobile 3G hotspot and can record in 720p. With the exception of 4G capabilities it’s almost the same phone.

    • Thanks for catching those things… I will make corrections.

i want to know if the htc evo with the front facing camera can it be used over seas in england or anywhere else like canada or new zealand
i live in florida but travel i want a new phone and i use skype a lot so front cam would be nice
        help me out please

        • Ian, the HTC EVO 4G can be used internationally, but locations may be limited. You should contact Sprint about using the EVO internationally and confirm that it will work in the areas you want to use it. You may be better off by paying an international fee in advance to Sprint, instead of just using your phone overseas without advance notice. I’ve heard that international roaming charges can be enormous, so it is best to prepare for that in advance.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

  • I have had the evo since june and I thought I had it all figured out but there are so many features to this techno piece of achevement that even after six moths of use it still suprises me with something new every now and then. If you are planning to get the evo, just do it. This is the best and coolest phone I ever had.

  • Very well said…. I totally agree ;)

I think the Htc Incredible and Htc Evo are both awesome phones, I’ve been with both version and sprint, version gave me problems but, with sprint I had nothing to worry about and there cheaper. I actually brought the Evo the first day it came And I have just been having so much fun with it, has a front facing camera which is awesome meaning I can video chat, The 4g is awesome now I can download all my videos and music faster. Plus with that Hotspot OMG that makes it way better than the Incredible. There both awesome phones but you can pretty much say the Evo wins Hands down.

DI has 1GB of rom too.. 748mb free to user..

  • Uh, what happened to the global roaming that was listed when this first was posted … that’s a drag that you’ve pulled that spec. If the Evo doesn’t have that, then I’m less interested in it. Might have to reconsider the Touch Pro2, discovered that I could get that one to dual boot with Android (in a pinch), and it’s got global capabilities.

  • Where's My Evo?
    May 5, 2010

Only thing I see missing is the fact that the DI has 512MB of ROM vs 1GB for the evo. Very good article otherwise.

You might want to note all specs are not final on Evo, just a thought ;-) .

    Nice chart otherwise!

  • Thank you so much for laying it out like this, I was wondering if either of them were “global” phones and was having trouble finding that out online … now you’ve answered that quite clearly.
