Key Differences

• 4G: The HTC Evo 4G is the first phone on a U.S. network to boast 4G connectivity, making it capable of connecting to Sprint’s WiMax network (where available) and enabling the device to reach peak download speeds of over 10 Mbps and peak upload speeds of 1 Mbps. In areas without 4G connectivity, the EVO will still operate on Sprint’s 3G network. Of course, the HD2 connects to T-Mobile’s 3G network.
• Operating system: The T-Mobile HTC HD2 is powered by Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC’s attractive Sense user interface built on top, while the HTV EVO 4G is an Android-powered device.  The EVO 4G also has HTC’s gorgeous Sense user experience.  The many differences between the two operating systems and the relatively slight differences between the two Sense user interfaces on each device are beyond the scope of this comparison, but both devices are powerful solutions for both work and play.
• Apps: The Android Market (at the time of this comparison) boasts an undeniably impressive and growing selection of over 50,000 downloadable apps — many of them free.  The Windows Marketplace for Mobile, on the other hand, offers less than 1,000 apps.
• Power: In the mobile phone food chain, both the HTC EVO 4G and HD2 are tops dogs.  Both devices are equipped with the industry-best 1GHz Snapdragon processor.  While the EVO 4G has an impressive 512MB of RAM, the HD2 has an even more impressive 576MB of RAM.  For all intents and purposes, the HD2′s relatively small amount of additional RAM is more of a spec sheet win than anything else, and won’t mean a significant advantage over the EVO 4G in performance.
• HDMI out: With an HDMI cable (sold separately), the HTC EVO 4G is capable of outputting video to a TV or projector. The EVO can display anything on the phone’s display, including video, when connected to a compatible TV or projector. The HD2 does not support video out.
• Mobile hotspot: The HTC EVO 4G can function as a 3G/4G mobile hotspot, providing the ability for up to 8 WiFi enabled devices to use the smartphone’s internet connection simultaneously. The T-Mobile version of the HD2 does not have native mobile hotspot capabilities.
• Design: Both devices boast impressively large displays and are of a very similar look and form factor, but the HTC EVO 4G features a “kickstand” that allows it to easily stand on a tabletop, proving a handy method of hands-free viewing.
• HD-quality video: While the HD2 offers quality video recording abilities, the HTC EVO 4G is capable of recording HD-quality (720P) video.
• Camera: The HTC HD2 has a powerful 5-megapixel camera with a bright dual LED flash and auto-focus. The HTC EVO 4G one ups the HD2 with a high-powered 8-megapixel camera, also with dual LED flash and auto-focus. The 3-megapixel difference, however, will only be a factor for avid mobile photographers planning on printing large versions of their photos. The EVO 4G also boasts a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera that is expected to make the device capable of mobile video chat.
