The Samsung Epic 4G was one of just two 4G phones to storm the cellular world when it was introduced in the summer of 2010. Today, the popular phone on Sprint’s network remains one of just a handful of 4G-capable phones, and it was recently joined by the HTC EVO Shift 4G. The EVO Shift, also on Sprint’s 4G WiMax network, has a few things in common with the Epic 4G, including that they both have slide-out physical keyboards. However, there are also some differences under the skin and many people rightly want to know how the performance of these two phones compare.
Wirefly’s recent videos have frequently used an Android testing program called Quadrant to generate a simple performance number that can be compared amnong phones. However, some have complained that Quadrant doesn’t work well for some phone architectures. A new Android bench test program called Smartbench 2010 recently became available, so Wirefly puts it to the test of measuring the EVO Shift vs. the Epic 4G. Which phone is more powerful: the HTC EVO Shift or the Samsung Epic 4G?

Is the Epic 4G able to download my kindle books?

Kim, yes, the Samsung Epic 4G works just fine with Kindle books. You’ll need to go to the Android Market and download/install the free Kindle app. Then use the app to sync books on your Kindle reader with you Epic. I haven’t done it, but people here say it works well.

I think it’s really great you took the suggestion and ran another benchmarking test. I saw the first video and comment and I am happy to see you followed up. Does this change your opinion in that they are equal or have you tried the Epic with Quadrant and Smartbench since 2.2 came out on the Epic?

AJ, I upgraded the Samsung Epic 4G to Android 2.2 and ran both Quadrant and Smartbench again, and got the expected 10-20 percent boost in scores. The Epic with Android 2.2 is my favorite sliding-keyboard phone at the moment – I think the quality of the screen and keyboard, as well as its front-facing camera, make it the pick over the HTC Evo Shift. The Shift is a nice phone, but the Epic 4G with Android 2.2 is better… in my opinion.

I am sending this email from egypt. I would like if these two phones could be shipped to egypt. If yes. Do i need certain network, taking into consideration that i am subscribing to vodafone which use GSM.
