Windows Phone 7, the new operating system from Microsoft, will hit the marketplace running on Nov. 8, 2010. Yet the earlier version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, 6.5, is already popular with many users, and the HTC HD2 has been a star of Windows Mobile fans for a while. How does the new HTC HD7 (running Windows Phone 7) compare with the HTC HD2 (running Windows Mobile 6.5)?

Vinay, you want to load additional software or operating system on your HTC HD2 phone? I have no experience with that, so I recommend that you ask your question on a forum/blog that is specific to the HD2. There will be people there who have done what you want to do and they will be able to help you. You might start with http://hd2apps.blogspot.com/ and see if that can help.

Go to http://WWW.xda-developers.com they will give you step by step instructions on how to what you want on your phone whether its android or Windows 7,I have android on my hd2 its very easy to do and people are more than willing to help you

as soon as i turned on the HTC 7 it said it doesnt have space and tells me to delete pictures and apps…i just bought the phone and turned it on..didnt download anything and it says i have no space…any1 know why?

Simran, it sounds like your HD7 may be defective. If you bought it from Wirefly, please contact Wirefly about returning it. If you got it somewhere else, you should contact that vendor.

I have the hd7 and im seriously thinking of getting the hd2 due to that i dont like the screen…. Not talking about the size or resolution but talking about those huge icons that are just put like that.. Cant put a background or change each icon with a diffferent color. :S…

Can you run OS 6.5 on HD7. I need to sync. outlook tasks and notes, and categorize outlook contacts. OS 7 cannot do this as I understand and T-mobile does not sell HD2 with 6.5 at present. Seems only option is to get a hold of HD2 which I cannot at this point, or buy HD2 and downgrade OS to 6.5.

Johny, I don’t know for sure about running Windows Mobile 6.5 on the HTC HD7 phone. My gut says there’s a way to do it, but it might take some good technical skills to make it happen. Keep in mind that Microsoft recently said that it was going to stop supporting the Windows Mobile 6.x operating system soon. Still, you might check Internet forums that are specific to the Windows Mobile OS and see if someone there knows how to do what you want. That’s well beyond what we can do for you here in the Wirefly forums.

Gustavo, you are going to have to visit a Windows Phone forum for those details. Installing WP7 on an HTC HD2 is a complicated process that is beyond what we can support here on Wirefly Learn.

You can now use the HTC HD2 and put Windows 7 on it and also use Windows Live, the HD2 works just as good as the HD7.

I HOPE THIS INFORMATION CAN HELP.
First, when HD2 was outcoming, i was thinking to buy it. But when i had found information from the internet about Windows 7 phones, i thought to wait and buy HTC HD7.
HD7 is better than HD2 because, you can do a lot of thing’s and will be able every week to update. There will come an big update for copy and paste for example. HD7 is upgradable. On the back, under the battery you can open that piece and there is a Flash slot for MicroSD class 4 with 8GB. It means normally it isn’t really a internal memory, you can change it. BUT if you open that cover under the battery, youre guaranty is not more valid. Also available with MicroSD class 2 32GB. Nice phone, better than Iphone and HTC HD2.

But yu can upgrade the hd2 too!! The only thing yu have to do is to download the latest wp7 rom from the xda-developers and to load it with the mdgloader.I tryed to update it with zune but it didn’t worked. So i had to update it with the mdgloader.
For example i have the htc hd2 running the latest version of the wp7……and it works great.

It depends on what you want. Windows phone 7 is till under development, and HD7 is aimed to entertainment and HD2 is a very versatile unit which can even host both Windows Mobile 6.5 and Android at the same time and is designed to be both an entertainment unit and a business smart phone, so if you want an i-phone substitute with better sound and prformance, get the HD7. If you want something you can adapt to most of your needs, get the HD2.

BTW, what I thought was a boring concept, is in fact Windows Phone 7 interface. Boring and ugly IMO.

Wow, this is the worst comparison on the net. Completely inaccurate. The HD2 actually has 576 MB RAM.
Also a side note, XDA-Developers have Android running almost flawlessly on the HD2. Windows phones have never been and will never be cool. They may be useful for corporate environments where the IT guys only know microsoft and are too lazy to get Android working (Android does work with Exchange) but WP7 is the biggest disappointment in smart phones this decade.

Another imprecision in the specs: HD7 comes with either 16GB or 8GB internal storage, which means no removable media. HD2 storage is not internal, but removable micro-sd cards (an advantage IMO).
I have been watching videos about the HD7, and can’t believe that ugly and unimaginative concept that was floating around the net as the rumored HD3 (which turned out to be bogus), finally made its way through the final line of HTC’s new phones (I mean the blue squares with crappy icons. I thought at first it was some sort of a joke), although I must add the HD7′s screen looks way better than HD2′s, and high definition video capture also looks great. It also comes with integrated stereo speakers (Very thin lines on top and bottom of the screen) and the kickstand looks cool, which might please some people.
I still lean towards HD2, although its alleged support for windows mobile 7 will seemingly be restricted to only certain features, which makes no sense at all. Who would want to upgrade to an OS that can not be fully used?
Probably Microsof’s way of “giving HTC sugar with the finger”, as we say in Mexico.

BTW according to HTC’s website, HD7 has 16GB of internal memory in the Asian distribution. Europe and presumably American versions will ship with 8GB.

These guys are just blatantly selling the HD7 over HD2. I was expecting to be blown away by the improvements in the HD2 successor, like AMOLED screen or faster processor. Instead they got rid of many features that added to the HD2 wow factor. The only things that appeal to me in the HD7 are the scarce extra 64 MB of Ram, and the functionality of the HTC hub, but wouldn’t definitely trade the wifi hotspot for high definition and possibly better audio playback.
What a disappointment. I refrained from getting the HD2 like 6 months ago because of the HD3 rumors. HD7 doesn’t seem to be a leap forward, but the other way around IMO.
I’ve made up my mind for the HD2.

HD2 has Opera Mobile Flash Lite (u can even use flash 10)

Very good Nestor, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I purchased the HD7 got it and realized all of the shortcomings and things that were important to me. Like you saidit doesn’t seem that microsoft is hearing the rants of its customers or maybe we are the minority? If you have a windows mobile device you are already a minority. I love the interface of the win 7 phone but thats not enough to make me want to keep it. Im sending it back in trade for the HD2 instead.
Microsoft needed to find a way to Make a “Gee Wizz!” device like I-phone os or android but most importantly they needed to do this while maintaining the features that seperated them from the rest and they fell on their face with that. I can’t believe we have not covered the whole backward compatability issue already! I cant even use mobile device center to sync all my thousands of contacts and outlook 2003 calendar appointments with out major juggling. Kinda dissapointed.

Bad comparison as Wirefly does not mention the Windows Phone 7′s lack of copy and paste. In WinMo 6.5 devices I can copy information from an e-mail and create a Word document and send it via e-mail. Abobe Flash is supported in WinMO 6.5 with 3rd party apps like Skyfire mobile browser. Mobile hotspot is also supported by 3rd party software with WiFi Router apps, and WinMo 7 does have free software you can obtain with Open Market app and many cab files available. WinMo 6.5 also haves literally thousands of apps you can purchase via Microsoft Market Place and elsewere. Silverlight, Twitter and Videocall and Multitasking are only a few other features in WinMo 6.5 not available in Windows Phone 7. Plus expansion slots for extra storage, not available in Windows Phone 7, Messaging and e-mail threading, HTML5 to name a few more. And many customazations available for WinMo 6.5 so that a consumer could make his phone unique from others. Windows Phone has many of the missing features Iphone OS had when it started. If Microsoft was hearing people complaining for lack of these feautures, why did they leave them out also? To make a newer version of their OS and add these features slowly while making consumers have to purchase newer phones with the features that Windows 7′s first version lacked?
