HTC Surround vs. Samsung Focus
Key Differences
- Background: Windows Phone 7, the new operating system from Microsoft, will hit the marketplace running on Nov. 8, 2010. One of the first phones out of the gate will be the Samsung Focus, which bears a family resemblence to Samsung’s popular Galaxy S line of Android phones. Another Windows Phone 7 phone that arrives around the same time will be the HTC Surround, which makes a strong statement about sound quality from a mobile device. With a slide-out loudspeaker array, the HTC Surround promises a high-quality listening experience to go along with its 3.8-inch LCD display. HTC has packed the Surround with Dolby Mobile, SRS WOW HD and a sound enhancer app to deliver unexpected sound from a small mobile device.
- Operating System: Both the Samsung Focus and HTC Surround run on Windows Phone 7, which was developed by Microsoft. A clean break from the previous Windows mobile operating systems from Microsoft, Windows Phone 7 promises a simple and intuitive way to interact with both work and personal requirements.
- Availability: The Samsung Focus and HTC Surround start shipping on November 8, 2010.

Thats right. The Focus comes with 8GB of internal memory, not 16GB. I think im gonna go with the HTC surround. Personally, I think the design looks nicer and more expensive. The kickstand and slide out speaker is what really pushes me toward the Surround. This, Combined with HTC’s sound enhancer and Zune music player, makes this phone possibly the best music phone out there.
