Q. Am I Eligible for a Verizon Wireless Cell Phone Upgrade?
Not all existing Verizon Wireless customers qualify for contract extensions. Verizon Wireless alone sets threshold rules as to who is eligible for a contract extension, as follows:
Note that eligibility results may vary based on a variety of conditions including, but not limited to a customer’s usage history, payment record, previous phone replacement, etc.
Upgrade eligibility is determined by Verizon Wireless in its sole discretion. Account approval will vary.
Find our if you’re eligible now with our instant Upgrade Eligibility Checker.

I am a repeat customer, hopefully. I am on a verizon plan and I purchaed my original Motorola smartphone from you. I am eligible for upgrade according to Verizon 12/27/11.
Can you tell me in advance what kind of cost will I have if I get another smartphone. Do I have to change plans to get a better deal, or can I keep the same plan. When I talked to
a verizon store, they told me I will get a $50.00 credit, which to me was a total joke.
Just interested if you can do better, or will I need to change carrier to get a great deal from you, just like when I bought my first phone from you.
September 27, 2011
David, there is a LOT of time between now and December 27. Prices, phones, fees and plans could easily change by then, so I suggest that you wait until early December to start shopping for a new phone and plan. At that time, you will be able to get a price quote that has a reasonable chance of being accurate when you become eligible.
Wirefly almost certainly will have better prices on phones than a Verizon store. In many cases, it is a couple hundred dollars less to buy a phone at Wirefly than it is from a carrier (such as Verizon).
Thanks for thinking of Wirefly!

Depending on if you are dealing with a direct store or an indirect store, could impact the deals you are able to get. Pricing is seperate between what Verizon offers and third party retailers (IE Costco, Walmart, Wireless Connection and so forth).
The $50 credit sounds like a NE2 discount in addition to the special upgrade rate you get. Typically new smartphones run in excess of $500, by contracting the carrier is eatting some of the cost of the cellphone and deferring that over your contract period. Hence the reason if you terminate early you get an Eearly termination fee. So with the contract you can get a $500 smart phone for $200, $100, or sometimes even older smartphones for free. What this sounds like though as I mentioned is a New Every Two discount for loyalty customers. What happens is if you phone is $100 with a contract, and you have a $50 NE2 you are getting that cost reduced down to $50 with a contract for a phone that maybe would have cost you $500 retail.

My son’s line is eligible for an upgrade but mine is not. I would like to get a smartphone. I can transfer the upgrade from his phone to mine on the Verizon Wireless website, but will that information be available to a Wirefly customer service person, so that if I call to ask about an upgrade, the transfer will be reflected?
September 27, 2011
CG, yes, all that information should be available to a Wirefly sales agent. If you call about an upgrade, s/he should be able to help you.

Hi, my uphrade date is 10/15/11 I was wondering if i can get a early upgrade with either you or verizon?
September 20, 2011
Lej, if Wirefly shows that you are eligible for an upgrade on Oct. 15, then that is the earliest you can upgrade through Wirefly. It’s possible that Verizon may allow you to upgrade sooner, but you will have to check with Verizon on that.
Thanks for thinking of Wirefly for your upgrade!

October 20, 2011
Wirefly is saying 22 months, Verizon usually goes by a 20 month period. Meaning you can usually become upgrade eligible 4 months before your contract is up.
September 9, 2011
I currently am eligible to upgrade in one month. I want to add a line and make mine a family plan, but if I do so and purchase a new phone to add, will I forfeit my “New Every Two” discount on my primary line when the time comes? Also, I am currently on the 29.99/unlimited data plan. Will this change if I switch to a family plan? How about when I upgrade to a new smart phone? Thanks!
September 9, 2011
Jenny, the answer is complicated, so I got a response from a customer service specialist:
1) We can certainly upgrade your plan to a family plan. That is no problem.
2) Verizon has gotten rid of its “New Every Two” promotion, and we don’t know if you will still be able to use it with direcely with Verizon. Wirefly has never been able to process NE2 on our orders, as that is a carrier-specific promotion.
3) Your existing line will still be able to keep the unlimited data plan, but the new line will need to be on one of the new data plans – they are attached to the phones and not the phone plan.
4) As for your existing line having to change your data plan – we do offer “Keep My Existing Data Plan” at this time. However, depending on when you upgrade, you may or may not have that as an option from Verizon.
I hope that helps. Thanks for thinking of Wirefly for this!

October 20, 2011
Data plan is considered a feature and not a plan, and is line specific. If you swap to a family plan you can carry the dataplan with you. A few exceptions do exist, such as things that could hinder this would be having a grandfathered Alltel plan or having a basic phone now. If you hvae a smartphone now and are just looking at adding another line and swapping over to a family shared plan. Only the the line that has the grandfathered unlimited would have it, you would still need a datapackage for the additional lines added or the other existing lines that do not currently have it. Remember data with verizon is considered a feature and not a rate plan.
September 7, 2011
I checked my upgrade eligibility on here and it says I’m not up until 4/12/12, but when I spoke to verizon, they said I was eligible on 8/12/11. I would like to give you guys my business again, please help me out.
September 7, 2011
James, we appreciate that you’d like to do business with Wirefly. In this case, however, it sounds like Verizon is offering you an upgrade that Wirefly is not allowed to offer. This happens often, because the carriers frequently allow you to upgrade at 12 or 18 months, but Wirefly is allowed to do upgrades only at 24 months. If you still think you should be allowed to upgrade, call 866-852-3216 and speak to an agent — there may be some facts in your case that our Eligibilty Checker overlooked. However, don’t be surprised if the dates are those you already discovered.

Can I keep my old plan and upgrade my phones. I have a Verizon family plan. If so How?
September 7, 2011
Terry, you first need to find out if you are eligible to upgrade your phones. Go to Wirefly’s Eligibility Checker and enter your information to find out if you are eligible. (You may still have months left on a contract before you become eligible, and the Eligibility Checker will tell you that.) Once you know if you are eligible, you can either shop/purchase phones right here on the Web site (http://www.wirefly.com) or you can call 800-552-9000 and speak to a sales agent.
Thanks for thinking of Wirefly!

I am eligible for upgrades on both lines. When I try to order I must select a new plan, there is no option for keeping my old plan
September 8, 2011
Terry, your best bet is to call Wirefly at 800-552-9000 and speak to a sales agent. The agent can look up your account and figure out why you are getting the information you’re getting. Verizon has changed its plans recently, and this may be the cause of what you see. Good luck!

I have been with sprint forever. But everytime I upgrade my phone with them its kinda expensive. Can I do an early upgrade?
September 7, 2011
Ritz, Sprint does allow early upgrades in certain circumstances, but only through Sprint itself. Wirefly does not offer those early upgrades for Sprint, unfortunately.
Good luck!

September 4, 2011
I am eligible for upgrades and I have added to the cart. My only concern is the “Details” outlined in the data plan changes. I have the LG Ally and the other line is the HTC Droid Eris. Both are smartphones and are on the $29.99/Unlimited Data Plan. I Don’t want to change that AT ALL! And I see under the details it gives a little “hint” by saying if Verizon doesn’t support the data plan any more that Wirefly will automatically sign up the 2GB/$29.99 a month plan. I really want to get my new phones through here, but I don’t want to have to worry about getting into a new contract with a horrible data plan.
ALSO… I have the 1400 mins with the 10 people you can talk to on any of the lines…..Now when I upgrade it is only giving me the 1400 mins alone with NO OPTION of my existing plan. What’s this about???
September 6, 2011
Justin, you need to speak to a sales agent who can answer your questions. Please call 866-852-3216. I know that most of the carriers (such as Verizon) have been changing their plans lately and the agent will have the latest information on that.
Thanks for thinking of Wirefly!

Tip of the day for you. If you upgrade and then somehow lose your unlimited dataplan call Verizon, whenever you change a feature you have a 50 day window to call up and get those features back before they are lost for froever, for the datapackage though it is 14 days. Seems verizon does not want you to keep it, but will honor it if you have it. So if somehow you lose it and wirefly removes it, which I doubt will happen, but I am not overly familiar with wirefly so I can not comment here, you need to be superfast and call up verizon and tell them you want the unlimited grandfather plan back. The agent won’t be able to do it for you but he can submit a ticket for the a specific department to return that feature to you in the event that the claim is filed in time and you meet all the criteria for getting it back.
August 18, 2011
I called wirefly and got a overseas rep who told me they could process my verizon upgrade even though my eligibility date is still one full week away. I told them I would wait. Is this true you can do the order a week out? I thought you had to be eligible before you could make the transaction. Don’t want to get stuck paying full price for two new phones because I placed the order a few days early.
August 25, 2011
Kale, I discussed this here at Wirefly and what the rep told you doesn’t sound right. It sometimes takes a couple of days for an order to process, so a rep might take an order a couple days before your eligibility is ready, knowing that you will be eligible by the time the order is completely processed. However, a week is too far out.
Did you actually go ahead and complete the order? If so, give me the order number and I will check the status.

I am looking at the Samsung Convoy 2 for Verizon Wireless & I see that a plan upgrade is required; my concern is that I’m currently receiving a 22% discount through my employer & I want to know if I purchase it through Wirefly that I will still receive the discount. Thanks!
August 16, 2011
Diane, It’s my understanding that Wirefly can work with most employee discounts. However, to be sure, call 866-852-3216 and discuss it with an agent.

Hi Bob – thanks for the reply. I did call the # & suffice it to say, they were not helpful at all. The reply I got was, “Well, I don’t know.” OK…..so I’m going to contact Verizon & see what they have to say.
August 20, 2011
Yes you will still receive your discount. I just added a line and upgraded thru wirefly and i have verizon. Wirefly deals are so much more better than verizon!!
August 10, 2011
I called and talked with someone at Wirefly and told her, after checking the eligibility, I was eligible for for an upgrade in December of 2011. I wanted to move from an old flip phone to a new Droid or a Smart Phone. I understand I would probably pay full price for the phone and had no problems, but she said I couldn’t do that because I was not yet eligible. I asked her what happens if I had lost my phone and needed a new phone would I be able to add a new phone. She started asking me if I had some kind of insurance and I said “No” because I would be a new customer coming to Wirefly. Same answer, not eligible….SERIOUSLY??? She seem to have been annoyed that I asked that question. You should check into that phone conversation since all calls are recorded.
August 10, 2011
gwong, I know it’s confusing and frustrating, but the information you got from the phone agent is correct. The carriers do not allow Wirefly to modify your plan until you are eligible, and you won’t be eligible until Dec. 2011. If you want a new phone today, you can pay full price for a phone at Wirefly but you will have to take it to a Verizon store to upgrade your plan. Wirefly will not be able to upgrade your plan until Dec. 2011. Again, this is a constraint that is imposed upon Wirefly by the carriers — we would love to be able to do it but we are not permitted. Even if you lose your phone.
I hope that helps you understand why you got the information that you received from the phone agent.

I am on a Family Plan with my 10yr old son – my primary line is eligible for a partial upgrade and my second line (my son’s line) is eligible for a full upgrade. I would like to use the full upgrade on my second line and transfer it to the primary line. Verizon says I can do an alternate line upgrade – that upon receipt of the phone, I can call and have it activated on my primary line. Wirefly reps are telling me that, by doing this, I am breaching the Terms and Conditions but I don’t see how since I am still commiting to extended my contract by 24-mos regardless of which line the phone is activated on. Please advise…

My contract with Verizon ended last December. Which box do I mark on your form? The New Contract or Upgrade? Also, what happens to my existing data plan? Does the price change on that, or do I get to keep the same unlimited plan for $29.99 as I’ve had for the past several years.
July 29, 2011
Floyd, you should mark “upgrade.” As for the data plan, we do have a box to check for “Keep my Existing Plan” – and depending on the phone you select (and the phone you’re upgrading from), we will try to accommodate that. You should also read the View Details link for the data plan option for KEMP.
Hope that helps!

my wife took my lines upgrade. so now her line is showing my upgrade date. if i order the phone in her number, verizon says i can do the alternate line upgrade.
is this so?
July 8, 2011
Justin, please go to Wirefly.com and use the Upgrade Eligibility Checker to see if an upgrade will be allowed on your second line. There are some upgrades that you can only do through the carrier (Verizon in this case), and Wirefly is not allowed to do that upgrade. If the Wirefly Upgrade Eligibility Checker says that you can upgrade, then Wirefly should be able to process the upgrade.

June 14, 2011
Kimberly, I don’t really understand your question. Do you want to upgrade an existing prepaid phone? Or do you want to upgrade to a new phone? Please confirm.
As for employee discounts, we can usually work with those at Wirefly. The best thing to do is to call Wirefly at 800-552-9000 and speak to an agent. We have been with Verizon for some time, taken over Alltel. Our plan is still the alltel plan and I woould like to upgrade my daughters phone (lost her lgenv2 this past weekend!) she is now using her old Pantech 218. If we upgrade do we have to change the plan from Alltel to Verizon plan. I do not want to pay any more than we are at the moment. Her plan is about $30 a month for txt.and internet. Thank you.
June 9, 2011
Audrey, once you have an existing plan that you like, you are usually “grandfathered” into that rate. In other words, you should be able to keep the same rate for a new phone with equivalent features. And it’s the “equivalent features” that is most important there. If your daughter decides she wants a phone that requires a data plan, then your costs may change.
You can call Wirefly at 800-552-9000 and ask your question to get a precise answer that takes into account all the details of your phones and service. I hope you can find a phone that works for your daughter.

Tillie, there is no application form I can send. Why don’t you call Wirefly at 800-552-9000 and discuss your phone needs. There are many “feature” phones available through Wirefly that are free with an extended contract, so there will be something that fits your needs.

By reading all of these comments and questions. I feel as though everyone is sort of on the same page with Verizon Wireless. As a customer, Verizon allows you and early upgrade a couple of months prior to your actual upgrade date. So if you’re actual upgrade date is 9/21, Verizon gives the customers an option to upgrade as early as May, like myself. My actual upgrade day is in September, but as I look at my account and visit the stores, I’m told I am eligible for the early upgrade now.
So everyone basically has the same question as to since Verizon itself allows these early upgrades, online & in the store, then why aren’t we able to do the same with Wirefly? Speaking for everyone, Wirefly should be able to go along with that feature as well, an enable early upgrades as long as it is approved by Verizon, instead of going by the actual upgrade date. Look into it! You will gain a lot more service!
May 16, 2011
Jason, Verizon (and other carriers) has restrictions on the sort of services Wirefly can offer. Although certain types of transactions can be done by Verizon at its stores, Wirefly may not be allowed to do the same thing. You’ll have to believe me when I say that we’d like to get as much of your business as we can. However, Verizon reserves certain transactions for itself.
I hope you can find the deal you want!

I am due for an upgrade with verizon, and am planning to go with the thunderbolt thru wirefly. My only concern is that my monthly plan charge appears to be more thru wirefly than verizon. Verizon says the 700 min. family share is 90.00 and wirefly says 99.99. I am the primary account holder. I would like to ask a few questions: First when I buy my phone thru you ,who will service the phone if something happens to it? Second, is my bill going to be higher when I go thru you or will it be the same as going directly thru Verizon ? Will I still be able to go to Verizon Wireless account for billing and questions or do I call you?I need these questions answered before I go any further. Thank you !
March 10, 2011
Hi, Loretta… thanks for the questions! First, Wirefly has a 30-day satisfaction guarranty. If you’re not happy about something in the first 30 days, call (or e-mail) us and we’ll take care of it. After the initial 30 days, you should work with Verizon for both device issues and billing questions.
As for the cost of the plan, it’s the same through Wirefly as it is going directly through Verizon. We save you money on the phone because we don’t have the huge overhead of thousands of stores and employees to man them.
I hope that helps you make a decision. Feel free to ask any more questions you may have.

Linda, since you got the phone in September 2010, your best bet is to take it to a Verizon store and ask about the problems you are having. They will be able to advise you on restocking charges or other fees (if any). Good luck!

i want to upgrade mine and my daughter’s phones to Droid 2 (we are both eligible). But we don’t want the media. Do we HAVE to get it? I don’t see any way of not purchasing it through wirefly adn I don’t want to get these phones from Verizon directly… they are expensive!

What is the “media” you don’t want, Kim? Keep in mind that the Motorola DROID 2 is no longer available. It has been replaced with two models: the DROID 2 Global and the DROID R2-D2, which has Star Wars content but is otherwise identical to the DROID 2. So what additional information can I help you with?

I suppose to upgrade my phone 22 of January why now you tell me I’am not qualify to upgrade? reason
February 9, 2011
I would like to purchase two Droid X phones from you but need to make sure I can qualify for the price of 19.99 each; 3 of 4 lines on my acct. with Verizon are eligible for upgrade phones; my daughter’s number was put as the “primary ” line, even though I am the account holder and pay the bill for 4 lines. Verizon said it didn’t matter which number was listed as primary. However, it seems to matter now if I can’t replace the other two phones with Droid X as I intend. SInce the “primary” line user (my daughter) upgraded last night to another phone , I would like to know if I can buy two Droid X phones for the $19.99 price. Both lines are eligible as of 2/5/11 for upgrades.
Please advise by calling me or email. Phone 360-689-4607; mooncalf69@gmail.com … I currently have a Motorola Droid and will be notified of your email if you choose to contact me that way. I am going to try to place the order and see if it works, but thought it best to give you a “heads up” , just in case there is a problem.
Also, if the phones are $19.99 each, why does a different amount show when totaled? ($89.99)

Caryn, the price to upgrade non-primary lines on a family plan goes up due to the fact that the carrier does not compensate us as much as they do for primary line upgrades. If you select “upgrade account, family plan, non-primary line” on Wirefly.com, that is the current price we offer. Our prices change frequently due to a variety of market factors. Our prices are often significantly lower than many of our competitors, in some cases up to hundreds of dollars lower. We know how important low prices are to our customers, and we continually strive to offer the most competitive prices on every device we sell.
Thanks for asking!

AT&T is my current carrier but my contract is with ATMC – a local authorized dealer. My contract will be completed this month. I tried to upgrade but was told that since my contract is thru ATMC that AT&T wouldn’t allow the upgrade. When my contract is completed will I be able to geta phone from Wirefly as a NEW customer since I will nolonger have a contract or have any obligations to ATMC?
If not, and AT&T will not accept my business, isn’t that the same as AT&T telling me that the only way to purchase a phone from Wirefly is to drop them as a carrier & go to another carrier? I assume that when I am not under contract I am free to use any carrier that will accept my business/money. I want to purchase a phone from Wirefly! Thanks.

Your best bet is to go directly to the carrier of your choice, AT&T, Verizon etc. Only they can get you the best deal on phones, services etc. Also you can change minutes mid month with verizon as well as most of the others. In other words if this month you see you are going to go over you plan minutes, you can change to next higher plan minutes and not get charged .45/min or whatever your contract says. Next month if you want you can drop it back down. It has saved me a boatload of money. Most carriers will not allow this if you go with an “authorized” dealer.
