The new Samsung Galaxy Tab on T-Mobile is one of a new class of multimedia tablet devices based on Android cell phone technology.
The Galaxy Tab has the latest features, such as a 1 GHz processor, front- and rear-facing cameras and easily accessed microSD and SIM card slots. It also runs Android 2.2, the latest version of the Google’s open operating system.
The primary focus of the Galaxy Tab is the seven-inch LCD screen, which is far larger than the screen on any cell phone. With a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, the Galaxy Tab’s screen is a terrific size for comfortably viewing movies, videos and photographs.
With a SIM card loaded, the Samsung Galaxy Tab can download at 3G speeds from T-Mobile’s network. Without a SIM, you can still get Internet access using WiFi. If you already have a T-Mobile account, the Galaxy Tab has an external slot for easy swapping of your SIM card to give the device full mobile data access.
Everyone will want to compare the Galaxy Tab to the leader in this category, the Apple iPad. There are plenty of differences between the two devices but one that stands out in favor of the Galaxy Tab is its compatibility with Adobe Flash content. The Android 2.2 OS in the Galaxy Tab smoothly handles Flash content, while such images are still off-limits on the iPad.
T-Mobile TV,which streams live television and provides access to on-demand shows, is also available on the Galaxy Tab with a free trial. With the seven-inch screen on the Galaxy Tab, it’s big enough to catch the sports highlights or watch a TV show with a friend.
