Verizon Wireless acquires Alltel Wireless

Update: It’s official, Alltel wireless is now all gone. While we will all miss Alltel, Wirefly offers service and all the latest devices from Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile across the US, and we believe one or more of these carriers will always be a viable choice for wireless customers residing in Alltel’s divested markets.

This past January, Verizon Wireless became the nation’s largest wireless carrier, sealing a multi-billion dollar deal to acquire Alltel Wireless. Most Alltel markets have now been acquired by Verizon Wireless, and Alltel customers in those markets are now asking “Can you hear me now?”

As a condition of Verizon’s acquisition of Alltel, the FCC required that certain Alltel markets be divested and sold to other carriers. These remaining Alltel markets are scheduled to be sold to AT&T and Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) in late-2009/early-2010. Customers in these markets will start receiving invoices from AT&T and ATN soon after the divestiture of these markets is completed in 2010.

As a result of these changes, Wirefly soon will stop selling Alltel service. If Alltel service is available where you live, you may still purchase new or upgrade Alltel service through Wirefly.

Wirefly has a broad selection of Alltel devices including the LG Tritan, BlackBerry Tour, LG Rhythm, HTC Touch Pro, UTStarcom UM175 USB modem and more. We also sell phones and service contracts for Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile across the US, and we believe one or more of these carriers will always be a viable choice for wireless customers residing in Alltel’s divested markets. To see what carrier choices you have where you live, enter your zip code in the box on the left of the screen and we will show you your best options.

  • Alltel is NOT gone. They are still in several states. Wirefly you need to update your records.

  • I have a touch Alltell,.an would like to know if/where I could get more mins. for it.I see Verizon bought them out,.so can I get a Verizon card for it?Or trade my phone in for a Verizon phone of equal value?

    • Jason, you need to speak to Verizon about that. Stop by a Verizon store and ask a clerk, or you can click on this link to see if Verizon works with your Alltel phone. Look at Verizon’s site for plan information.

  • As a current ALLTEL employee, I can assure you Alltel is not ‘all gone’ as this article states. Yes, Verizon did take over a large percentage of what was originally Alltel, but the Alltel name, brand and service is still alive and well.

I have altell now and I seen online where I can get a free phone and
nothing would change….Is that right?? We have been with altell for years
and I do not want to change…So let me know asap…Thank You Brenda God Bless

      • Brenda, there are a variety of phones on Wirefly that are free if you get a new two-year contract or extend your existing contract for two years. I don’t know exactly what you qualify for, so you should call Wirefly at 800-552-9000 and discuss what you’d like to do with a phone agent. Once you know your eligibility, you can shop for phones on Wirefly.com.

I was content and satisfied with Alltel my service plan was inexpensive and I knew what to expect when the bill came but with Verizon I can’t say the same. Unless I buy their Verizon equipment I am refused any of the services offered to their customers. I am stuck in a contract not able to ajust and use my initial services with Alltel and now i’m not able to get the Verizon services without locking myself into a two year contract with a company i am not satisfied with that in my opinion is greedy. Treat the existing Alltel customers fair let us finish our original contract out and let us pay for services needed without forcing a contract on us. They are not about the customer needs and without customers Verizon you would have nothing.

I am very sad to see Alltel go. Their pay-by-day option was perfect for me! I cant believe that verizon doesn’t offer a prepaid option that includes unlimited texting. I WILL NOT use Verizon. I will look elsewhere. How can you force us to switch to verizon and then not offer comparable plan options. :(

Good day! Prompt, where it is possible to download game HL2 with new mods.
I heard, that there many new opportunities. It is thankful in advance.

  • ALLTEL Sucks, they charged me over $300 on every bill, when I open new service for my phone, they do not count. Changed 1000 free txt msg to unlimited and they charged me on every single msg, call them and they refunded but the next bill, same thing happened, charged me on every single txt. The free minutes suck too, since today, everyone moved to t-mobile, at&t, 1000 mins aren’t enough, why pay $300 or more, when you pay only $79 for unlimited txt msg, unlimited mins, unlimited … and t-mobile has the service called myFave for those who isn’t wanting unlimited mins, they get free mins charge to that #, when you only need to pay $5 a month….they have a lot of good phone, and alltel phones are like 5 to 10 years away from the new phones. OVERALL>ALLTEL SUCKS >>>EPIC FAIL

  • Everyone thinks all people have cell phones. I NEVER HAD ONE

I have been an Alltel customer for 15 years. My son and family switched to Verizon on Saturday and we purchased new phones. I have a Samsung and I HATE it! I had a LG with Alltel, and I loved it. I do not like the evenings and weekends starting at 9. I like to pay the extra and have my nights start at 7. Verizon has nothing to compare! I am looking into another phone company. Bigger is not always better.
