Samsung

Beginning today, Samsung has made available a software development kit enabling interested mobile developers to create widgets for the company’s TouchWiz user interface. The toolkit will provide a development environment, documentation, access to discussion boards, and testing tools enabling developers to author widgets for several platforms, including the company’s proprietary OS.

“The Samsung Mobile Innovator Widget portal allows developers to author widgets which are optimised to run on Samsung’s advanced TouchWiz UI. As touch becomes more popular you can find this interface on increasingly more devices across the entire Samsung portfolio, whether they are built on Symbian, Windows Mobile or our own proprietary system which drives Samsung’s feature-phones.”

Users of devices sporting the TouchWiz UI have decried the inability to download additional widgets and the relatively small number native widgets available on most devices. With the Mobile Innovator Widget portal, Samsung aims to provide developers the capability for rapid widget development while bringing consumers more choices and a consistent experience across all Samsung feature-phone and smartphone devices.

Interested mobile developers can access the toolkit at http://innovator.samsungmobile.com.
