Just about every mobile user within the last decade has been asking for a smartphone battery that can offer extended battery life. Could 2018 be the year in which we finally get a battery that can keep up with our increasingly handset dependent and data hungry lifestyles? This largely remains to be seen, but if it is Apple getting in on the action, that should be pretty exciting news in itself, right?
Well, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the noted expert KGI Securities analyst on everything Apple, the new three iPhone models that will be released next year will all be equipped with the same big L shaped battery being used by this year’s iPhone X. And as reported by 9to5Mac, this new generation battery could offer capacity as high as 3,000 mAh.
With the increasing popularity of phablets (smartphone devices with very large display screen sizes), more powerful batteries are needed now more than ever. On top of that, considering how successful the debut of Apple’s Face ID facial recognition technology has been on the iPhone X, almost certainly the feature will be present in all three new iPhone offerings in 2018 (not to mention future iPad tablet models). Needless to say, big screens and facial recognition tech will require an iPhone battery with enhanced capabilities.
There is another iPhone related rumor making the rounds through the interwebs -- as indicated in a report recently published by the Nikkei Asian Review, Apple is said to be developing a new 6.1 inch LCD iPhone model that is fitted with a metal casing. Note that for this year’s iPhone devices, Apple had opted to use a glass rear cover for the iPhone X, as well as for the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. But if the metal casing rumor turns out to be true, then the 2018 iPhones could come wrapped in a metal frame similar to last year’s iPhone 7 devices.
Furthermore, it appears that Apple will be going full phablet mode in the Year of the Dog. The three new iPhones next year will reportedly include a 6.1 inch LCD iPhone model, a 5.8 inch OLED screen model, and a 6.3 inch OLED offering. Per the Nikkei Asian Review’s report, it appears that only the 6.1 inch LCD model will come with a metal rear cover. Talk of three new iPhones launching next year is nothing new -- as a matter of fact, nearly a month ago, Kuo had predicted that a trio of flagships will be released in 2018, and each one of them will be adapting the all screen aesthetic of the iPhone X.
