This should be welcome news to Apple fans. The tech giant’s might be releasing its wireless AirPods during the holiday shopping season after all -- at least, as suggested by an updated AirPod listing found in the website of Alza, an official Apple retailer based in the Czech Republic. The listing also mentioned an expected December ship date. Tech website Letem Svetem Applem was the first to get wind of the listing.
Apple first introduced the AirPods back in September earlier this year, along with the unveiling of this year’s iPhone models, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. The AirPods were meant to be music accessories that should function perfectly with the latest iPhone devices, both of which do not have audio jacks. The AirPods were supposed to be released a month after they were officially announced. But Apple later stated that the release date for the wireless earphones was to be delayed. In its website, the tech giant had indicated that the AirPods were currently available, and did not include any other information regarding the availability of the earphones.
Well, until this week, of course. As seen on Alza’s website, the AirPods are already being offered for preordering. Is this reason enough for iOS mobile users around the world to start expecting a global release for the AirPods come December. That notion would not be too far fetched. It bears noting though while Alza is an authorized retailer of Apple, the iPhone maker still has not listed the AirPods in its Czech Apple Store.
To be perfectly clear, there is no word yet on when exactly in December the AirPods will start to be available. But it makes sense for Apple, by hook or by crook, to launch the earphones during the holidays in order to be able to compete with rivals. There is no shortage of quality earphones already out in the market today, and the AirPods will likely contend with other popular choices such as the Beats Solo3 and the Beats Powerbeats3.
The delay of the AirPods’ release may have disappointed Apple’s fans, but in the world of tech, sometimes products just need a bit more time to get ready for public consumption. The reason may be issues connected to hardware or just plain old bugs that needed to be sort out. This is true of a lot of companies out there. Apple, of course, is held to a different standard altogether, mainly because it is Apple.
But making sure the AirPods are one hundred percent ready might turn out to be a good decision on Apple's part. For tech companies nowadays, there is reason to be extra careful, especially after what happened with Samsung and its Galaxy Note 7. And one does get the feeling that Apple does not mind releasing the AirPods come winter time. The holidays after all is the season for giving, and of course, for buying stuff. And the AirPods would make for a nice gift.
