According to HMD Global, the Finnish tech company that is now producing new mobile devices under the Nokia brand, it will be releasing the Nokia 6 in the United States mobile market starting next month. The device, though, will not be sold through any wireless carrier, but through Amazon. The Android powered handset will be offered in color options of black or silver, and with a pricing of $229.
But for those who want to purchase the Nokia 6 at a lesser price, they may want to consider becoming a member of Amazon Prime. As offered through Amazon’s Prime Exclusive lineup of smartphones, the Nokia 6 (unlocked version) has a price of only $180, just less than fifty bucks cheaper than the usual $229 price.
The really cool thing about Amazon Prime Exclusive is that it also offers other interesting unlocked devices. For instance, there is the Moto E4 -- the smartphone is already pretty affordable with its normal pricing of $130, but on Prime Exclusive, it is being sold at a discount of $30. Motorola had debuted the Moto E4 just a few weeks ago, along with the Moto E4 Plus. By the way, the Moto E4 will start shipping this coming June 30th.
In total, Amazon added five unlocked devices to its Prime Exclusive catalogue. Completing the lineup are three handsets from Alcatel -- namely the Alcatel IDOL 5S, the Alcatel A50, and the Alcatel A30 Plus. Their respective prices are $200 ($80 lesser than the normal retail price), $100 ($50 lesser), and $80 ($50 lesser). The Alcatel devices will begin shipping on July 10th next month.
Prime Exclusive was first launched by Amazon last year, and was originally meant as an enticement for customers to join the Amazon Prime membership program in order to get access to discounted smartphone devices. The options listed in Prime Exclusive may not be the best smartphones out there, but they are certainly not bad. And because they are offered unlocked, people can buy them without ever worrying about getting tied to a two year contract with mobile operators.
So how does Amazon get away with the discounted prices? The devices are actually subsidized by ads and offers that appear on the lock screen. While this can be an issue for some users, there may be a few out there that really do not mind.
