The Apple Watch generated a lot of buzz during the Apple's recent "Spring Forward" event. With the company disclosing information about the pricing and availability of its first ever wearable device, a lot of people are now more excited than ever in getting their hands on the smartwatch this coming April 24th (pre-orders start April 10th).
Almost lost in all the excitement is Apple CEO Tim Cook's discussion about the company's success, especially on the retail side, with Apple achieving significant landmarks in that department during the last few months.
Indeed, Cook revealed that Apple now has a total number of 453 retail stores in the world, not to mention opening six stores in China in just a matter of six weeks. And perhaps buoyed by the immense popularity of the new iPhone models, people are flocking to Apple's retail stores. As a matter of fact, in the fourth quarter of last year, more than 120 million customers visited Apple stores everywhere.
Speaking of iPhones, Cook also revealed that since Apple first introduced the revolutionary handset back in 2007, the company has now sold 700 million of it. And it's not just phones that Apple is selling like hot cakes. According to Cook, the company has also sold 25 million Apple TV units. Even Apple Pay, the mobile payment system it developed and released last year, has went on to expand to more than 2,500 banking institutions. That is really impressive considering that when Apple Pay first launched, only 6 banks supported it. Now, Apple Pay can be used at more than 700,000 locations in the world. Back when it was launched in 2014, only 200,000 establishments supported it.
Cook's revelations only enforce the fact that Apple indeed had a pretty great year. A few weeks ago, Apple reported its highest quarterly profits ever, thanks to the new iPhones, which many consider to be the best-selling smartphones of all time. iPhone sales, which numbered 74.5 million units during the final quarter of 2014, make up 70 percent of the total global smartphone sales.
Apple's next surefire hit is likely the Apple Watch, which hits stores on April 24th. Many are saying that it is no longer a question of "Will it be come a hit or not?", but more of a "How many units will be sold?" Industry watchers are already predicting a sales figure at somewhere in the 15 million unit range. Nobody would be surprised if the Apple Watch hits that mark by the end of 2015, or even surpasses it. One thing for sure -- Apple has another impressive number to add to its already formidable list of figures.
