Apple’s newest flagship devices, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, are officially launching worldwide this Friday. Recently, various industry watchers have pointed out how the tech giant is beginning to transition from causing long queues at Apple retail outlets to focusing more on preorders wherein consumers either have their new iPhone devices delivered to their doorstep or pick them up themselves. This seems to be the case with the new iPhone 7 models, and Apple has went on to reveal that all iPhone 7 Plus units (all color variants) have practically sold out before launch. Moreover, the company also announced that all jet black colored editions of the iPhone 7 have also been reserved.
This latest development may not be welcome news for some consumers, especially those who did not choose to preorder. Apple has made it clear that the iPhone 7 Plus and the jet black colored edition of the smaller iPhone 7 will likely be not available for walk in buyers at Apple Store outlets. Still, Apple’s partners, including wireless carriers will have varying levels of availability, so customers may have a better chance there of taking home a new iPhone 7.
Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus around more than a week ago. As far as looks are concerned, the latest iPhone offerings appear to be quite similar to last year’s models (the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus). There are key differences, however -- this year’s models have done away with the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, and instead go with either headphones that can be plugged via the Lightning charging port or wireless headphones.
And apart from offering the usual color options, Apple has decided to make the iPhone 7 devices available in a couple of new black color variants, including a new glassy jet black edition. With regards to new features and enhancements, the latest iPhone handsets come with improved chip sets, bigger storage capacity, water proofing capabilities, and redesigned home buttons that are pressure sensitive. As for the bigger model, the iPhone 7 Plus, it features a dual camera configuration on the rear side that allows for enhanced zoom capabilities.
Apple’s revelation of the iPhone 7 Plus selling out is consistent with the announcement it made a week earlier in which it also expressed its plan not to share any opening weekend sales figures for its newest iPhone devices, which is highly unusual for any major mobile manufacturer these days. The iPhone maker did say that it no longer believes that preorder statistics are a good enough metric for evaluating the success of its products.
