Apple recently announced that it will be introducing the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus to 36 additional markets before the month of October ends. The tech giant noted that among that he new markets will include countries such as South Africa and China.
Once the roll-out to additional markets will be complete, the company will have made its two new iPhone models available in no less than 69 countries and territories by month's end. The phone maker is considering this roll-out the fastest it has ever done.
Because expanding to 36 new markets is no easy task, the roll-out will be accomplished in stages. If all goes well, the new iPhone versions will become available in China, India, and Monaco by this coming Friday. A week from now, Apple will extend its iPhone roll-out to countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, and Israel, among many others. Just after Halloween, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus should become available in Albania, Bahrain, Bosnia, Croatia, Estonia, French West Indies, Greece, Greenland, Guam, Hungary, Iceland, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Macau, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, South Korea, Reunion Island, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Thailand, and Ukraine.
After the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released last September 19th in 10 countries, the devices have gone on to sell over 10 million units within the first weekend of availability alone. This set a new record for Apple whose previous flagship releases, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C, sold 9 million units the year prior. A very impressive achievement for the new iPhones indeed considering there were notable supply shortages and high demand for scalped iPhone devices in Asia during the time.
No one knows yet how many iPhones will be sold in light of the new market expansion. However, the company is expected to give an update about the latest iPhone sales figures when it discloses its quarterly results this coming October 20th.
Apple is certainly boosting the availability of its new iPhones, and we are not just talking about countries outside the United States. Even on home soil, the flagship smartphones are enjoying a much wider distribution. Just a few days ago, Boost Mobile, a prepaid subsidiary of Sprint, has announced that it will also be launching the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus this Friday, October 17th.
