Yikes. Apple has disclosed that there is a defect in the batteries of certain iPhone 6s units that causes them to shut down all of a sudden. According to the tech giant, the likely affected devices are those iPhone 6s units manufactured between September and October of last year. So for those who are currently owners of last year’s iPhone release, they might need to have their iPhone 6s checked, regardless if it shut downs randomly or not. What they need to do is simply visit the nearest Apple outlet or authorized service provider and have their handset’s serial number examined. If their unit happens to belong to that particular manufacturing batch, then they will be given a replacement unit. For those who have already noticed the battery problems on their iPhone 6s devices and then chose to spend some money having the batteries fixed or replaced, Apple is ready to refund them the full costs of the repairs or replacement.
The last week has not been so kind to Apple’s iPhone devices. Just a few days ago, the tech giant has had to address the issue of touch disease that has been plaguing quite a number of iPhone 6 Plus devices. For those not in the know, touch disease refers to a touch screen related problem that causes a flickering gray bar to display across the top portion of an iPhone 6 Plus’ display. Another symptom is noticeable inconsistencies in screen responsiveness, which sometimes renders an iPhone 6 Plus unit completely unusable by the owner.
To address this issue, Apple was forced to offer repairs for affected units for a fee of $149. Obviously, it is not free, but it is way cheaper than the $329 repair fees expected under the standard out of warranty. But it is tough luck for those who have already taken the initiative to have their iPhone 6 Plus units fixed. Still, Apple did state that it is willing to reimburse the difference between the repair costs and $149.
Going back to the defective batteries of the iPhone 6s, Apple is somewhat trying to convey the message that it is not as bad as some may think. According to its statement, the company stated that only a limited serial number range is likely affected. Still, Apple is ready to provide a replacement unit for those devices belonging to this range, whether or not their batteries are having some problems.
