Apple is officially starting its deployment of the finished version of its iOS mobile operating system, iOS 10. The roll out is being done by way of over the air updates in the Settings app, and through a wired update wherein mobile users can just plug their iPhone and iPad devices into iTunes and download the newest iteration of iOS. Apple also took the opportunity to formally release watchOS 3, the latest version of its operating system for wearable devices.
Some iOS mobile users may not be able to download the update right away. The reason for this is that Apple now has adopted a queue system for major updates, such as the iOS 10 roll out. The purpose of this queue system is to ensure that the downloading of updates are done quicker. Still, the update could take several minutes.
It is expected that millions of iPhone and iPad users around the world will be trying to update their handsets, which means that waiting for the actual download to begin may take many minutes or even an hour. It is recommended that iOS mobile users try to back up their smartphones and tablets. To make sure that the iCloud back up is up to date, users need only check their iPhone or iPad settings. Those who want to do a manual back up can also choose to plug their iOS powered device to their computer.
After making sure to back up, users can proceed to the Settings app immediately in order to be included in the queue system. Go to “Settings” then “General” and then “Software Update.” Once users see “Update Requested,” they can expect the download to automatically begin, that is once the download is made available.
One of the things to check out is a major update on Siri, which includes integrations with third party mobile apps. For example, users can now send cash to family and friends through Siri and various third party payment apps. The same goes for transmitting a message through a third party chatting app or requesting a ride home.
iOS mobile users can also expect to see lock screen that has undergone a major overhaul. The new and improved lock screen can now show small live widgets, especially for iPhone devices that come with 3D Touch. There is also a major update to the Photos app, with new features such as facial recognition, deep learning categorization, and smart photo albums.
The Messages app also finds itself with lots of new functionalities, such as an emojify feature, effects for messages, Slack style feedback for messages, rick link previews, and third party extensions. Other apps that are getting updates also include Apple Music, Maps, the Phone app, and HomeKit.
