O frabjous day, at last Apple is releasing its own Lightning Dock for its two newest flagship devices, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The great thing about this release is that the dock not only works for the latest models of the iPhone, but also for models as early as the iPhone 5, and even for future, yet-to-be-released iPhone models. This is possible because this new dock comes with an independent Lightning connector that does not need your iPhone to fit a set slot's dimensions. You can not say the same for previous Apple docks.
For interested buyers, this new dock is available for $40 through the US Apple Store. It should be noted though that prices may differ depending on which country you are based in.
As far as aesthetics go, the new dock sports a rather simple design, with a rounded rectangle shaped white plastic base, and a lone male Lightning connector jutting out on top. The connector is further reinforced with a bulge that rises from the base's surface, which should help the connector resist wear and tear whilst providing stability.
At the back, the Lightning Dock has a couple of ports -- one is for Lightning to support charging and data connectivity, while the other serves as a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack to support stereo audio out. In addition, the connector is fitted with the necessary pins to support most headsets, as well as come with play/pause controls that should function with iPhone devices.
The fact that this new dock is debuting nine months after the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus were launched is interesting. After all, it is now entering into a market that is already replete with other docks offered by third party makers. But Apple consumers have been known to stick to Apple-made accessories for their Apple devices, and it is a good bet that they would go for this Lightning Dock over other brands not named Apple.
Apple has been rather busy debuting new offerings lately. The company just upgraded its 15 inch MacBook Pro by adding the Force Touch trackpad. Not only that, the tech giant is also introducing a new, inexpensive variant of its iMac with Retina 5K display desktop computer. Although the release of its own Lightning Dock was relatively quiet (by Apple's standards), there is no doubt that many Apple fans are welcoming its addition.
