Apple’s newest iPhone models will be announced during an event scheduled on September 9th of this year, in the city of San Francisco, California. This date will be exactly one year after the tech giant had first unveiled the iPhone 6 and its bigger sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus. These devices went on to become two of the best selling smartphones ever by Apple, and have contributed immensely in making the company one of the most profitable across the globe. The invitations for the upcoming event have already generated buzz. Those who received the invites were teased with a short statement that read: “Hey Siri, give us a hint.”
Nothing is certain yet, and it helps that Apple has always had a good track record of keeping its secrets. But there are already reports suggesting that the new iPhone (the iPhone 6S) will come with some new features. For instance, a report by 9to5Mac is stating that the user interface of the iPhone 6S may come with cool wallpapers that are animated, kind of like the animated watch faces that owners of the Apple Watch might have noticed. As for the iPhone 6S’ animated wallpapers, they could included colorful animated koi swimming over the screen, or psychedelic plumes of smoke weaving in and out of the icons on the display
There is even talk about a smaller screened edition of the iPhone 6 (the iPhone 6C) that may be featured during the September 9 launch event. However, it appears that this smaller version (with a 4 inch display screen) of the iPhone 6 is likely not ready for unveiling next month, according to another report by 9to5Mac.
Everybody knows that iPhones make up a major chunk of Apple’s revenue stream. As a matter of fact, sales of the company’s smartphones represent over two thirds of its total earnings. Naturally, Apple would want to keep on bringing in the cash -- that is why the tech giant is always announcing new iPhones regularly (that is every year by Apple’s standards).
Despite iPhones continuing to sell, the overall market for smartphones around the world has slowed. And it is not just smartphones, the market for tablets is rapidly weakening. Even Apple, as mighty as it is, is feeling the effects -- the sales of its iPad tablets every quarter have dropped year over year over the past six consecutive quarters. This is why the upcoming September 9 launch event is crucial too -- not only will it give Apple a chance to introduced its newest iPhone, but it would also allow the company show off its newest iPads. And maybe, Apple can turn its slumping iPad sales around.
