Two of the biggest phone makers in the planet right now have decided to join in on the Black Friday frenzy. Apple will be conducting a one day event this week, while its fierce rival Samsung will also be offering customers generous discounts on a range of mobile devices and other electronic products.
Let us start with Apple. The iPhone maker took the liberty of announcing its Black Friday event by way of a promotional web page, which can be viewed on the tech giant’s United States, United Kingdom, and Australian websites. On this page, a graphic of an Apple Watch is shown, with its screen displaying the text “Fri 25; Save the date.” The header also states “Friday can’t come soon enough.”
Apple has always been a master when it comes to teasers, and wisely enough, the promotional page does not provide any details. It simply invites customers to “come back this Friday to check everyone off your list.” The page also indicates that customers who make their purchases online can expect two day delivery, free of charge, on in-stock items. As for those not too keen on doing their shopping online, Apple says that its retail outlets in the US, the UK, and Australia will be having extended business hours.
Now on to Samsung. While Apple is still teasing its deals, its South Korean rival is already putting up a full website replete with loads of discounts for a wide range of products. Customers can find bargains on Galaxy smartphones (including this year’s Galaxy S7, with the unlocked 32 gigabyte edition being offered for $670), smartwatches (the Gear S3 for $300), virtual reality headsets (the Gear VR for $60), speakers, video players, and smart TVs.
This coming weekend is shaping up to be a very busy one. Apart from Apple and Samsung, other names in mobile are also preparing their respective Black Friday deals. T-Mobile has already announced its offers, which include a trade in deal that involves the Galaxy S7. Another major US wireless carrier, Sprint, is also offering a generous deal, by way of a buy one get one promo that also involves Samsung’s current flagship device. Then there is Republic Wireless, and the MVNO is actually putting a little twist to its Black Friday offering. Instead of Black Friday or Cyber Monday, Republic is pushing for Taco Tuesday, preparing its deals on the Tuesday right after this weekend.
