Apple has officially begun sending out invitations for an event happening on March 21st at 10 AM Pacific Time at its headquarters located in the city of Cupertino in the state of California. The invitation teases with the wording “Let us loop you in.” The tech giant may still be in the midst of a legal battle with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over smartphone encryption, individual privacy, and national security, but apart from that, it is business as usual for Apple.
Industry watchers, iOS diehard fans, and just about everybody else is kind of expecting Apple to formally announced at least a couple of new shiny toys during this March 21st event. One is a follow up to its 9.7 inch iPad Air 2 tablet device, and another is a smaller iPhone model (measuring in at 4 inches) that should supplant the iPhone 5s as the tech giant’s budget smartphone offering (or something close to that).
Although there has been talk about a possible unveiling of a new Apple Watch, some believe that it is not likely to happen on March 21st. Sure, it has been almost twelve months since Apple introduced its first and only wearable device, but industry watchers are saying that the next generation Apple Watch will probably be launched by the later part of 2016 (possibly alongside the company’s newest iPhone 7 flagship devices). However, it is not unreasonable for people to expect Apple to announce minor updates for its smartwatch in the form of new bands and watch faces, and maybe even upgrades to its software and features. Note that software updates for the Apple Watch, as well as for the iOS mobile operating system and Apple TV, have already been made available in beta, but there is no telling yet when they will be rolled out to the masses.
The March 21st event should also give Apple ample opportunity to revitalize its sales. To be clear, the company is far from being in dire straits, but iPhone fatigue has somewhat contributed to its slumping sales recently, and in order to get back on the right track, Apple needs to offer something that is new and exciting for its legions of supporters.
Apple is notorious for its secret keeping ways, but that has not stopped the rumors from swirling. For instance, it has been rumored that the next iPad will be a 9.7 inch iPad Pro that comes with its own smart connector port and supports Apple Pencil. As for the 4 inch iPhone, it is said to sport the super fast A9 processor.
