Before this year is over, Apple could be introducing not two, but three variants of its upcoming iPhone 7 flagship devices. According to tech blog Mobipicker, Apple has already started production of its 2016 iPhone offerings, and an anonymous source has provided a screenshot showing three new iPhone models that will debuting later this year. In order to handle the increased production duties, Foxconn and Pegatron (Apple’s device manufacturers) are reportedly reinforcing their staff.
Even since Apple released its first ever iPhone device back in 2007, the company’s smartphone division has always enjoyed increasing sales year after year. But this year, the tech giant’s remarkable near decade long sales growth streak was put to an end, with Apple reporting its first ever decline in iPhone revenues.
Make no mistake about it -- Apple’s brand is still as strong as ever. But it appears that its current flagship devices -- the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus -- did not do enough to combat iPhone fatigue, with hordes of iOS mobile users choosing not to upgrade to a new iPhone, while other customers deciding that the iPhone 6s devices just did not offer enough to convince them to buy the handsets.
This is why so much depends on the upcoming iPhone 7 lineup of devices. But because as secretive as Apple is, nobody quite knows for sure what to expect a few months from now. Still, that has not stopped the rumor mill from continuing to turn. About a couple of months ago for instance, there were reports that the larger iPhone 7 Plus will be fitted with dual cameras.
There are other rumors that the new iPhone 7 devices would feature stereo speakers, and in the process, get rid of the usual audio port (at the displeasure of many iOS mobile users), and then sport a camera on the rear side that is flush with the handset’s surface. Since, like, forever, iPhones have always featured mono speakers. If these rumors turn out to be true, then the upcoming iPhone 7 will be the first Apple smartphone to sport dual stereo speakers.
Interestingly, Ming-Chi Kuo, the noted Apple analyst from KGI Securities, thinks that Apple may be saving big upgrades for its iPhone offerings in 2017, not this year. 2017, after all, marks the year when the iPhone turns 10 years old, and to commemorate that occasion, the tech giant may be readying to unleash its best iPhone model yet.
