Just in time for the holidays, AT&T has recently updated its international rate plans. These new and improved international rate plans take effect for all AT&T customers starting today.
Targeting its traveling customers, the carrier is naming its international offers as Passport plans. The new international offers basically consist of unlimited text messaging and WiFi data inclusions. Each plan differs on allocated data usage, with voice calls charged per minute.
For reference, the new and improved international rate plans are as follows:
Passport ($30.00 recharge) -- Inclusions: unlimited text messaging, unlimited WiFi data, 120 megabytes of cell data (with overages billed at $0.25 per extra megabyte), and $1.00 per minute voice calls
Passport Plus ($60.00 recharge) -- Inclusions: unlimited text messaging, unlimited WiFi data, 300 megabytes of cell data (with overages billed at $0.20 per extra megabyte), and $0.50 per minute voice calls
Passport Pro ($120.00 recharge) -- Inclusions: unlimited text messaging, unlimited WiFi data, 800 megabytes of cell data (with overages billed at $0.15 per extra megabyte), and $0.35 per minute voice calls
The three plans mentioned above automatically expire after a period of 30 days. Thus, AT&T customers who plan to stay abroad for a longer duration will need to recharge their Passport plans in order to be able to enjoy the same rates for voice calls and data use.
Those under Passport plans can also make use of the AT&T Passport app to get free unlimited WiFi hotspot access at specific regions in more than 35 countries that include Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan.
The fact that, with the new international rate plans, AT&T is only billing users a flat rate per extra megabyte used is really an advantage for the carrier's subscribers. Indeed, most other carriers do not offer international data overage fees like AT&T's new rate plans.
As for frequent travelers, they can choose to add their Passport inclusions to their regular AT&T monthly plans as part a Global international plan. If they are traveling with tablets, laptops, or other mobile devices, they also have the option of adding data-only Passport or Global plan.
Planning a trip to Canada or Mexico? You can also buy AT&T Canada and Mexico Travel Minutes, that is if you want to enjoy voice call inclusions while you are in those countries.
