AT&T has just revealed that it has added new Mexico and Canada roaming services for subscribers on some of its existing smartphone plans. Those who are subscribed under the AT&T Unlimited Plan, they can expect to be able to soon enjoy their plan’s voice calls, text messaging, and data inclusions in and between Mexico, Canada, and the United States, absolutely free of roaming fees. And beginning on May 20th of this year, subscribers can have the option of adding the Roam North America service to their Unlimited Plan without having to worry about any additional charges, either through the MyAT&T portal, or by making a phone call directly to the wireless carrier.
As for those subscribed under any one of AT&T’s Mobile Share Value Plans, they will be able to utilize their plan’s monthly voice calls, text messaging, and data allotments with zero roaming charges. However, they can only do so in Mexico. And also, this will only apply to subscribers availing of plans that offer at least 15 gigabytes of data every month.
So what about those under Mobile Share Value plans with less than 15 gigabytes of data? These subscribers can still make phone calls and send text messages in Mexico by getting AT&T’s Mexico Roaming Bonus pack on top of their existing plan. They may be delighted to know that the Mexico Roaming Bonus add-on is free of charge, and already comes with 1 gigabyte of monthly data use in Mexico, with overages typically billed at $20 for each gigabyte.
But wait -- why is there is no mention of Canada for Mobile Share Value plans? This is because Canada roaming services are not made available to subscribers of Mobile Share Value plans yet. However, these customers can still choose to add AT&T Passport, a feature that includes unlimited text messaging, voice calls starting at $0.35 a minute, and as much as 800 megabytes of included data, with overages charged from $0.15 for each megabyte.
AT&T’s Unlimited Plan was resurrected back in January early this year, offering unlimited voice calls, text messaging, and high speed data, but the plan is only made available to subscribers who also have either DirecTV or U-verse TV accounts. The plan costs a hundred bucks a month for one line of service, with extra lines made available for $40 a month each (with the fourth line of service offered free of charge).
