AT&T is kicking off an open enrollment period for its Mobile Protection programs until April 30th of this year, essentially giving its subscribers another opportunity to make sure their smartphones and tablet devices are protected from accidental damage. Previously, subscribers can enrol in the wireless carrier’s mobile insurance programs within 30 days of activating a new handset. However, for some reason, certain customers often fail to take advantage of that month long window to insure their devices.
But now that AT&T has announced an open enrollment period, subscribers now have until the end of April to get protection for their handsets. Basically, AT&T is offering three different mobile insurance options for its subscribers. There is the Mobile Insurance option that costs $6.99 a month, the Mobile Protection Pack which goes for $10.99 a month, and the Multi-Device Protection Pack priced at $29.99 a month.
At less than seven dollars every month, the Mobile Insurance option already covers the subscriber’s smartphone or tablet device against loss, theft, accidental damage, or out of warranty defects. Those who own only a single mobile device may do well to choose this option, and if they sign up for this program, they get up to a couple of claims available within any consecutive 12 month period. Once their claim has been granted approval, replacement handsets are made available the next day at the soonest.
AT&T’s Mobile Protection Pack costs higher than the basic Mobile Insurance option because it also protects the data and information saved on the handset. This package already comes with Mobile Insurance, plus customized support for ProTech, as well as the Protect Plus mobile app, which features 50 gigabytes of memory and backup for the user’s data and the ability to locate, lock and wipe a device that has been lost or stolen.
As for the Multi-Device Protection Pack, it is ideal for subscribers who own more than one handset. This package includes all of the previous inclusions covered by both the basic Mobile Insurance option and the Mobile Protection Pack, but has the added advantage of covering a maximum number of three qualified handsets. Subscribers can make up to six claims between all protected handsets within a consecutive 12 month period.
All AT&T’s options may come with deductibles of up to $199 a claim, but subscribers can become eligible for Declining Deductibles. Those who do not make a claim in a period of six months will save 25 percent on the regular deductible for their handset -- after a year, this discount increases to 50 percent.
