After officially completing its acquisition of DirecTV for $49 billion just over a week ago, AT&T did not waste any time in introducing a new bundle that combines wireless services with television services.
Indeed, the second biggest wireless carrier in the United States has just introduced its first mobile and TV bundle, offering four wireless accounts that come with 10 gigabytes of shareable data and TV service with high definition video content as well as digital video recording capabilities for four TVs for a special rate of $200 per month for the first twelve months. AT&T is planning to launch this bundle in August 10th of this year.
With this unveiling, AT&T now holds the distinction of being the first company to offer a bundle of mobile and TV services across the US. Of course, this is made possible through the combination of DirecTV’s countrywide satellite TV services that AT&T acquired and melded with the carrier’s own extensive mobile resources.
The timing could not be more impeccable, too. In the last few months, consumers have seen various service providers starting to expand their current repertoire of services. A few examples include Verizon Wireless looking to launch a mobile video service, and Cablevision introducing a wireless service priced at $10 per month.
As for AT&T, it is certainly going aggressive early. The wireless carrier has already started selling DirecTV service to over 2,000 of its retail stores, quite a number of which already provide its U-Verse TV service, made available in particular states where its landline division has a presence.
Moreover, AT&T has also listed out its TV packages for U-Verse and DirecTV, whose price range between $50 and $125. If subscribers decide to avail of both the mobile and television service, they will get to enjoy a discount in the amount of $10, with their monthly bills at $200 (excluding the installment fees for the handsets used in the account). Plus, the wireless carrier is also offering a bill credit in the amount of $300 to any subscriber who opts to buy an AT&T handset. Lastly, subscribers who are based in any state or region that has AT&T’s landline division, they can choose to bundle web services, whose prices may range between $30 and $50.
