You might have already have of the Axon M, the new foldable smartphone device that ZTE had debuted back in October earlier this year. Well, for those of you interested in getting your hands on this twin screen marvel of a handset, you might want to check out what Best Buy is offering. ZTE’s Axon M typically retails for a price of $725, but as sold by the retail giant, the price is only at $17.49 per month for a period of 30 months, or equivalent to around $525, as opposed to the original cost of $24.17 per month.
A few well known brands have already declared (or hinted about) their intentions to release a foldable smartphone. In November of last year, Samsung had published a patent that featured renders of a foldable device. Fast forwarding about ten months later, a handset with the model number of SM-G888N0 had appeared in the phone maker’s South Korea website. There is some strong speculation that this model number is that of the Galaxy X, the rumored foldable smartphone from the company. Last October, Samsung’s fierce rival, Apple, was said to be looking to collaborate with LG for an upcoming iPhone that is equipped with a folding organic light emitting diode (OLED) display screen. Around that same time, Chinese tech giant Huawei was also reported to have plans to debut a foldable smartphone by next year.
ZTE, however, may be the one to have won the bragging rights, at least in becoming the first phone maker to actually launch a high end foldable device offering. Indeed, with the Axon M, the user gets a pair of 5.2 inch displays that can be folded out and combined to form one 6.75 inch Full HD screen (with a thin break in the middle, notwithstanding). Or if the user wants to, he can have the two screens show different content independent from each other, or open individual mobile apps on a specific fold. And of course, both displays can also be made to show identical content (for a cool mirror effect), which could come in handy when more than one reader is viewing the content.
Other specs include: a 20 megapixel main camera, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chip set (four core, 2.15 GigaHertz), 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM), 64 gigabytes of built in memory (expandable up to 256 gigabytes of memory capacity), a 3,180 mAh battery, and Google’s Android 7.1.2 Nougat mobile operating system.
