Boost Mobile is launching two new smartphone offerings just as the year ends. Indeed, the prepaid mobile carrier (a subsidiary under Sprint) is welcoming the Lumia 635 and the ZTE Speed. Apart from launching two new devices for its customers, Boost Mobile has also decided to make its popular (but originally limited-time-only) Data Boost plans and pricing permanent.
Customers of Boost Mobile should be delighted to know that the carrier is offering not one but two new devices that are priced just under $100. Both the Lumia 635 and the ZTE Speed smartphones can be bought for only $99.99.
The launch of the Lumia 635 smartphone marks a milestone for Boost Mobile. After all, the device is the first Windows Phone device ever made available to the prepaid brand's customers.
It runs on the Windows Phone 8.1 mobile operating system and even features the Cortana digital assistant. The device sports a 4.5-inch ClearBlack display screen and a 5-megapixel camera on the rear side.
As far as hardware specifications go, the Lumia 635 possesses a handy 1.2 GigaHertz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, supported a 1,830 mAh removable battery and a microSD card slot for up to 128 gigabytes of extra memory.
As for the ZTE Speed, it is an Android device that has impressive specs despite its under-$100 price tag. The device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and is available for ordering online.
The ZTE Speed has a 4.5-inch display screen flanked with a 2-megapixel camera on the front and a 5-megapixel camera on the rear side. Hardware-wise, the ZTE Speed smartphone features a 1.2 GigaHertz quad-core processor, 1 gigabyte of random access memory (RAM), 8 gigabytes of internal storage, and a 2,000 mAh battery.
Aside from the two new devices, Boost Mobile is retaining its Data Boost plans for good. Originally offered as a limited-time-only offer, Data Boost plans gave Boost's subscribers twice as much high-speed data every month at no extra cost. The plans also include unlimited throttled data, with high-speed data that varies depending on which specific plan. The new pricing structure now includes:
$35 monthly -- with unlimited voice and texting and 1 gigabyte of high-speed data (originally only 500 megabytes)
$45 monthly -- with unlimited voice and texting and 5 gigabytes of high-speed data (originally only 2.5 gigabytes)
$55 monthly -- with unlimited voice and texting and 10 gigabytes of high-speed data (originally only 6 gigabytes)
The Data Boost plans were first introduced in September earlier this year. Due to popular demand, Boost Mobile extended the promo through the holiday season. But with double data becoming a huge hit among subscribers (whether on major wireless carriers or MVNOs), it is not a surprise that Boost Mobile is deciding to make Data Boost permanent.
