While it is true that the Essential Phone may not be right up everyone’s alley, it is hard to deny that the phablet has an exquisite design. But for all its sleekness, the device admittedly has a rather limited range of color options (basically just black and white editions). That should change soon with the news that Essential is releasing three new colors for its flagship offering.
By way of a post in its official Twitter account, the company has just confirmed the existence of a trio of color options -- namely Copper Black, Ocean Depths, and Stellar Gray. It should be noted, however, that Essential has made it clear in its tweet that these three new colors will be limited edition offerings only.
With regards to availability, not all colors will be made available right away. The Ocean Depths edition is already selling right now, but only directly from Essential’s official website. Next on the line is the Stellar Gray variant (featuring a cool dark titanium unibody with a stylish matte black rear casing), which will be released this coming February 20th. As for the Copper Black version (with the frame rendered in a shiny copper finish), it should launch a couple of days later on February 22nd.
Each of the new limited edition Essential Phone versions will be sold for a price of $599. Because Essential has not released any official information regarding the number of units released for the new color options, interested parties better act fast in the next few days if they want to get their hands on any one of these variants.
Introducing three new colors for the Essential Phone seems like a great idea, given that the device is not exactly flying off the shelves that quickly. As a matter of fact, earlier this week, IDC reported that there only 88,000 units of the phablet that were shipped in 2017 (by the end of last year, the device has already been released for about six months).
But it is worth mentioning that Essential may be okay with that sales number anyway. Right from the start, the company did say that its mission was never to sell millions of Essential Phones, but just to release a product that represents the ultimate Android experience (which should not be surprising, given that Andy Rubin, the father of Android, is behind the company).
For more information about the new variants, you can head to Essential’s official blog right now.
