CREDO Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that leases network capacity from Verizon Wireless, has recently and quietly introduced a new unlimited data plan this week. The announcement was made through the carrier’s official blog, which indicated that the new unlimited options include a single line of service of unlimited voice calls, text messaging, and data for a price of $80 per month, and five lines of service for a total price of $200 per month (or equivalent to $40 for each line of service).
Those interested to avail of the latest unlimited data plan from CREDO Mobile need be aware that data speeds are throttled to 64 kbps when users go beyond the allotted 20 gigabytes of data in each billing period. Also, it is worth mentioning that the MVNO continues to offer its existing tiered data plans, with prices typically starting at $30 per month for 1 gigabyte of data, and maxing out at $60 per month for 6 gigabytes of data.
And for those not familiar with CREDO Mobile, know that the mobile operator gives an automatic donation to a number of non-profit organizations every time somebody avails of its wireless service. To date, the company has already extended donations totaling some $83 million to various groups such as Planned Parenthood, Rainforest Action Network, and Oxfam America, among many others.
For the longest time, CREDO Mobile had made full use of the network of Sprint. But since last year, it was reported that the MVNO had started to switch to the network of the number one wireless carrier in America -- Verizon Wireless. Still, other reports last year also indicated that CREDO Mobile would still take advantage of Sprint’s network for BYOD (bring your own devices) customers. As for the rest of its customer base, it is assumed that they are now utilizing wireless service by way of the Big Red’s network. Although CREDO Mobile has not officially published its subscriber numbers, recent estimates suggest a figure around the 100,000 mark.
Right now, CREDO Mobile offers a fair range of devices via two year agreements and installment plans, as well as plans without any contracts. The pricing of its handsets can go as low as $80 for Samsung’s Gusto 3 (a flip feature phone), and as high as $800 give or take for flagship devices such as the Galaxy S8 Plus or Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus.
