It appears that a certain Samsung mobile app has accidentally revealed a new upcoming Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S7 Active. Apparently, SamMobile has spotted quite a long list of mobile devices in the Google Play Store that offers support for the Samsung Level mobile app, and the Galaxy S7 Active happens to be included in the roster.
Samsung’s Active series of Galaxy smartphones is relatively new. It first began in 2013 when the South Korean tech giant started offering a water proof and extra durable edition of the Galaxy S4, the company’s flagship device back then. Soon after, every succeeding Galaxy S model since has been released with an Active edition.
But when Samsung introduced its newest flagship devices (the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge) this year, things got a bit trickier. With both the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge coming with their own water proofing capabilities, was there a need for an Active variant for the new Galaxy S7 smartphones?
Granted, the Active series of Galaxy smartphones is not just about water proofing capabilities, but also has its rugged charms, something that should differentiate itself from Samsung’s flagship devices. Similar to previous Galaxy Active offerings, the newest Galaxy S7 Active surely come with an ultra durable casing.
Indeed, outdoor enthusiasts would certainly prefer having a Samsung Galaxy smartphone that is not only protected from water damage, but can actually also withstand drops. This is where the rugged casing plays a part. Sure, the added bulk may give the device more weight and dimension, but the shock resistance capabilities may be worth it, especially when you never need to worry about damaging your handset when you are mountain biking down a steep trail.
Previous Active Galaxy devices also boasted enhanced battery performance. For instance, the Galaxy S6 Active came with a 3,500 mAh battery, which is decidedly more powerful than the standard Galaxy S6’s 2,800 mAh battery. Samsung will likely continue this trend with the upcoming Galaxy S7 Active.
Last but not the least, the Active series of Galaxy devices differs from standard Galaxy smartphone offerings by featuring a trio of hard buttons right below their display screens. In regular Galaxy devices, one can usually expect one hard button and then normally a couple of capacitive buttons.
Samsung has been visibly aggressive in promoting its Galaxy devices. It unveiled its latest flagship devices earlier than previously expected, and right after, has done quite a good job in keeping its momentum going. A new Galaxy Active smartphone offering should help generate continuous excitement, even if all we have for now is an unintentional leak.
