Apparently for some. Apple has just started the deployment of the final version of its iOS 10 mobile operating system, but there are reports surfacing that users are encountering issues when downloading the newest iOS software update. What happened was that once users go through the whole download and install process over Wi-Fi, their iPhone device displayed an error message, which also instructed the users to plug their handset into iTunes on their computer. The problem was that after connecting their device to the computer, another error message appears, indicating that there is a problem with the iPhone, requiring it to be either updated or restored to factory settings, which unfortunately has the effect of wiping out all settings and data.
Still, Apple has responded to this latest development by urging iOS mobile users to update the iTunes on their computer to the latest version (v 12.5.1), and then recommending that they update their iPhone handsets by plugging it into the computer. UPDATED: According to the official statement released by the tech giant, it had detected the issue in the software update process, which had affected users especially within the first hour of the iOS 10 roll out, and Apple is reassuring everybody that the problem has already been resolved, per Digital Trends.
Compared to Google’s Android mobile operating system, iOS offers the benefit of regular updates. But as previous releases of iOS versions have shown, bugs and issues often crop up, especially in the first few days or weeks of deployment. For instance, a couple years ago, the roll out of iOS 8 was beset with all sorts of problems. The subsequent deployment of iOS 8.0.1 was meant to fix those issues, but instead it brought additional problems related to cellular connectivity and Touch ID. Apple had to pull out iOS 8.0.1 as a result.
Similarly, the deployment of iOS 10 does not come without any hitches. This is why it important for iOS mobile users to make sure their iPhone and iPad devices are backed up via iCloud. If ever they need to restore their handsets, they can always retrieve their data from there.
iOS 10 delivers some new enhancements and features, particularly with regards to Siri (which is now integrated with third party mobile apps), the lock screen (which features a new look and the ability to display small live widgets, the Photos app (now with face recognition), and the Messages app (an emojify feature, message effects, rich link previews, and many more).
