Just recently, Microsoft posted a teaser image of a new smartphone showing its new branding color (orange) and the date of of its upcoming unveiling, which is November 11th, just a few days away. Also accompanying the teaser was the hashtag #MoreLumia.
The official introduction of this new Lumia device will mark the first time Microsoft ceases to use the Nokia brand name for its smartphone offerings. Even if the Nokia name still holds some popularity especially in European markets, Microsoft is optimistic that the Lumia brand alone can stand on its own.
And the company also believes that a new look can't hurt. When Microsoft first broke the news that they were dropping the Nokia brand, they also unveiled an orange theme for all Microsoft Lumia products moving forward. The orange element is no doubt present in the teaser, and fans of Lumia phones can expect this color to feature in other upcoming smartphone releases.
As for the teased smartphone itself, nothing is certain yet considering that the official unveiling date is still days away. But there are reports that the device will have a 5-inch QHD display screen, a 5-megapixel primary camera and VGA front camera, a 1.2 GigaHertz processor, 8 gigabytes of internal storage, 1 gigabyte of random access memory (RAM), a 1900 mAh battery, and 3G-only connectivity.
It is mostly speculation for now, and Lumia enthusiasts may have to wait until Tuesday to know what specifications the yet-to-be-introduced smartphone will feature. What is sure though is the branding change, and with the introduction of a new Lumia phone, it should have a domino effect --- that is, if it is not underway yet.
Re-branding across the board is isn't easy, never mind quick. Local and global websites, including various social media accounts, still need to adapt the branding change. The same thing goes for all packaging, promotions, marketing, and retail collaterals and materials.
And let us not forget that we are getting close to the holiday season, which will only make things busier for Microsoft. And for sure, the competition is not sitting idly by. Tech giants like Apple and Samsung will be busy with their own year-end promotions, and Microsoft will have to step up its game in order to compete.
