INQ, a fledgling London-based smartphone manufacturer, has announced the launch of two new handsets geared toward social networking. The INQ Chat 3G and the INQ Mini 3G will fully integrate Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Skype and include tethering and media sync capabilities in the uniquely styled handsets.
The company purports to have worked closely with the Twitter team to develop a custom Twitter application optimized for both devices. The application will allow users to update their Twitter accounts without using SMS. The INQ Chat 3G will also feature a Twitter widget that will deliver Twitter updates to the home screen.
Both handsets will be equipped with plug and play HSDPA modems allowing them to be tethered to PCs or Macs for high-speed wireless broadband access. The devices are also capable of syncing music, video and photos with iTunes or Windows Media Player.
The Chat 3G features a full QWERTY keyboard, while the Mini 3G is a slimmer candy bar device. The devices can also be customized with seven different colored backings.
INQ's CEO Frank Meehan summed up the company's mission, saying "We build phones that focus specifically on what people want to do most on mobile, and deliver it at a price point that's easy for consumers and profitable for operators. We have completely broken the vice grip hold that high end smartphones had on great mobile internet experiences, and made them available to everybody."
