Just recently this week, Google has rolled out a number of new updates to its mobile app for the iOS mobile operating system. One update takes care of bugs that should make the app more reliable than ever, another update now lets users in-search YouTube video content, while the third one offers a new incognito mode. Basically with this new functionality, iOS mobile users will not have to worry anymore about other people knowing their browsing history on their iOS powered devices.
Regular users of Google’s Chrome web browser may already be familiar with incognito mode. For those not in the know, it is an option first introduce on Chrome that lets users browse in private, with their browsing history, downloads, cookies, accounts, and log in credentials remaining unsaved. There are those who see the incognito mode as a means for doing some suspicious Internet activity, while others see it as a safe method of surfing the web, especially when using a computer or device they do not own. Other browsers already have an incognito mode in some form, but when it comes to search mobile apps, the feature is not that common.
In the case of Google’s mobile app for handsets that run on iOS, the incognito mode can be activated by way of Touch ID, which means that only the user’s fingerprints can gain access to the private sessions. In order to start using the feature, users simply need to toggle on the incognito mode option in Settings. Once activated, users can even launch a new incognito mode session through 3D Touch on the mobile app icon.
Apart from integrating secret search capabilities to its app for iOS, Google has also taken the opportunity to incorporate YouTube video playback from within the app, instead of having users launch another separate mobile app in order to view video content.
It bears noting that these latest updates to iOS come just days before Google is set to hold a media event scheduled for October 4th. On this date, many industry watchers expect the tech giant to officially announce a new mobile device(s), Google Home, a voice controlled digital assistant, and an update to its Chromecast digital media player. With regards to new handsets, the talk is that it will be a pair of devices called the Pixel and the Pixel XL, and HTC is reportedly being commissioned to produce the phones.
