For any sport fan, playing daily fantasy sports games does make their favorite sport a little more fun and exciting. But fantasy sports games are not always ideal when you are bent on watching just one sports team compete. Indeed, things get a bit tricky when the players you have picked from different teams are all playing their respective games live on different channels for instance.
Thankfully for basketball fans, the National Basketball Association knows this all too well. That is why the world’s most popular basketball league is introducing a new mobile fantasy game called NBA InPlay. NBA InPlay will be synced to live game broadcasts in real time, which means that NBA fans can literally play InPlay live on their mobile devices while watching an NBA match.
So how exactly does NBA InPlay work? First of all, the user must choose one of the two teams competing before the start of the game. Then the user must select four NBA players, specifically one player for every quarter that the user thinks will perform particularly well that quarter. The user then racks up points based on the performance (points, rebounds, assists, etc) of the player he has chosen during that quarter he has selected them for.
What makes NBA InPlay so cool is that in every quarter, the user is given four turbo boosts that he can opt to enable. Each of these turbo boosts launch 48 seconds and basically do a couple of things -- let the user accumulate points based on the performance of every player on this team, and then award additional points from the player the user has picked for that particular quarter. Remember that these two things only happen within the 48 second time span whenever a turbo boost is activated.
Now this is where the fun begins -- a user can activate that turbo boost, say, right before Klay Thompson shoots that triple, or that moment when Kawhi Leonard makes a steal and sprints down the court for an easy jam. It sounds so simple, but things can get complicated. For one, because a turbo boost is ultra time sensitive, the user must perfectly sync the timing of his turbo boosts with the NBA InPlay’s servers. This is easier said than done because TV broadcasts are sometimes delayed by a few seconds, that is depending on which location you are watching the live game broadcast. To address this, NBA Digital has found a way to recognize a silent audio signature in all live game broadcasts. A user then allows his microphone to access that broadcast and sync his fantasy game with the actual game being broadcasted live on TV.
NBA InPlay is already made available for download free of charge.
