LG recently and officially announced the existence of the LG Q8, its newest smartphone offering that tries to combine stylish design with toughness, and some of the core attributes of the South Korean phone maker’s flagship devices, especially the V lineup of Android powered handsets. What sets the new LG Q8 apart though is that it was built for optimum portability.
The LG Q8 is actually the second smartphone from the company’s Q series of devices. Some may remember that about a couple of weeks ago, the tech giant debuted a new lineup of midrange smartphones called the Q series. At that time, LG had formally unveiledthe Q6+, the Q6, and the Q6α.
As for the compact LG Q8, it brings high fidelity audio, high quality video and photo rendering abilities, and an IP67 rating for water proofing and dust resistance capabilities. In terms of video shooting, the device is equipped with the Steady Record 2.0 feature, which helps make for smoother video footage recording with less vibration. The handset also happens to employ a dual lens configuration on the rear side (78 degree standard sensor, plus a 135 degree wide angle camera), and topped with a wide angle sensor (120 degrees) on the front side.
With regards to sound when recording video, the LG Q8’s Hi-Fi Recording feature takes full advantage of a pair of high Acoustic Overload Point (AOP) mics in order to lessen background noise, especially when shooting footage outdoors. Videos are then saved in 24 bit / 48 KiloHertz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM) format, which is used by filmmakers.
At this point, we should already be talking about the other key specs. As a compact smartphone offering, the LG Q8 features a 5.2 inch QHD IPS Quantum primary display, with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels, and a pixel density of 570 ppi (pixels per inch). It also comes with a secondary screen (also IPS Quantum) with a 160 by 1,040 pixel resolution.
Inside, the LG Q8 packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, supported by 4 gigabytes of LPDDR4 random access memory (RAM) as well as 32 gigabytes of built in storage (which can be expanded up to a couple of terabytes by way of a micro SD card slot). The smartphone is fitted with a 3,000 mAh battery (embedded), and is powered by Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat mobile operating system.
