Some of you may have already heard that Google has just unleashed the first beta version of its upcoming Android N mobile operating system (the successor to the current Android Marshmallow, with the N name still to be decided). HTC has wasted no time in expressing its support for the latest iteration of the mobile OS. By way of its official Twitter account, the Taiwanese phone maker has announced that it will be pushing Android N out to a trio of its smartphone offerings, specifically its latest flagship device the HTC 10, as well as its One A9 and One M9 handsets.
Of course, in consideration of the fact that Android N is barely even out yet, HTC obviously of knowing when it will be able to start a roll out of the mobile operating system to its smartphone devices. Moreover, even if Google has already launched Android N to the masses, HTC still has to do its own testing, albeit it is only for a trio of its smartphones (for the time being). And don’t forget the wireless carriers, who also have to do their own tinkering.
With that in mind, it is quite impossible for HTC to provide a timetable at this point in time. Still, the fact that it has promised to bring Android N to three of its most in demand smartphone devices should be welcome news. But it begs another question though -- will other HTC devices, especially older models, get Android N, too?
Various industry watchers believe that the One M8, the flagship device that HTC released back in 2014, will probably not get Android N. Jeff Gordon, the senior communications manager of HTC, has however hinted by way of a tweet that there is simply no telling just yet. He did qualify that by virtue of the One M8 being more than two years old now, it might not be a priority. It is true that a couple of years might not be that old, but in this day and age, a 2014 smartphone release may seem like a decades old relic.
With regards to Android N, Google is still busy working on finalizing the final build for this version, but it should be ready for possible deployment by the end of the summer season. As far as features are concerned, there is talk about support for multi window capabilities, updated graphics application program interfaces (APIs), and even support for virtual reality.
