For the last two years, HTC has been successful with its Desire lineup mainly because it is a midrange line. The company continued to manufacture high end smartphone models to try to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung but to no avail.
To be fair, the past Desire models always had a playful, less serious vibe to it compared to the other devices manufactured by the company. With the new Desire 10, HTC is attempting something they have not done in the past. It has given the Desire 10 a makeover to look like a more grown-up version of the series. Mainly, the Desire 10 is available as a "Lifestyle" model or a "Pro" version, with specs and features differentiating between the two.
The Desire 10 Lifestyle model comes with a 5.5 inch HD Super LCD display with 720 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 1.6 GigaHertz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 2 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) for the 16 gigabyte memory edition and 3 gigabytes of RAM for the 32 gigabyte internal storage version. The device can accommodate up to 2 terabytes memory expansion through a micro SD card. It captures photos with its 13 megapixel rear facing camera and the 5 megapixel front facing camera. It is powered by a 2,700 mAh battery on the back.
Meanwhile, the Desire 10 Pro is equipped with a 5.5 inch Full HD IPS display with 1080 pixel resolution and runs on Octa Core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with 3 gigabytes of RAM for the 32 gigabyte model and 4 gigabytes of RAM for the 64 gigabyte variant. Like the Lifestyle model, there is room to expand the memory by up to 2 terabytes through a micro SD card. The camera on the Pro has also been improved, bearing a 20 megapixel rear facing camera and a 13 megapixel camera in front. Battery wise, there is a massive 3,000 mAh battery on the back of the device. It also comes with a fingerprint scanner.
The two models operate on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with HTC Sense UI running on top of it. Its colors have also been upgraded to include Black, Navy, White, and Valentine Lux; which is really a light blue model. They are both made out of plastic and feature a metallic trim for a more upscale appeal.
The Desire 10 Lifestyle was recently launched in the UK and other markets for around $324. Meanwhile, the Pro is set to arrive next month. While HTC says the two phones will be sold globally, there is still no confirmation on whether it will be available in the US.
